It wasn't really an illegal backhand, wrong direction for that, but it was a little extra swipe with the open glove, and of course their heads come together in the clinch, and he drags his glove across Vitali's face a second time after that sequence.

There just isn't a conclusive argument one way or the other. I feel that given the angle, the punch likely caused the cut, but it was worsened by the "dirty boxing" rough housing after the fact. Just a part of boxing, fighters take liberates like that all time, it's impossible to police.

Personally i root for both fighters, i wish them both well and hope they give a good fight, and the best man wins.
Got to say though VK sounded after like a man who had just had the crap kicked out of him, was he suffering from multi organ failure, because he certainly sounded and looked delirious.
