Dimitrenko can't fight well enough on the inside to rattle Vitali. He can't get inside Vitali's tremendous jab either. In other words it'd be a very boring and one sided affair.
Briggs won the WBO title, then lost it, only by decision, so that is more than merely beating Travis Walker. And yes, beating Luan Krasniqui is MUCH more than beating Travis Walker. MUCH more.
I think Maskaev is a better name for the resume and legacy, Arreola is going to lose his 0 soon and be useless pretty much.
Dimitrenko has a good jab himself & he's around the same height as the Klitschkos too. Not the same power or speed though but it could get interesting..............
Opponents for Vitali or Wladimir in the order I'd like to see them: 1. Valuev 2. Chagaev 3. Povetkin 3. Arreola 4. Haye 5. Dimitrenko It really doesn't matter which order of which brother puts the hurtin' on which guy. They're all going down.....................
Guys like Chambers or Solis can still be serious threats if they step it up against some good competition.
I agree. Arreola is not ready for this kind of fight. He hasn't even beaten a legit top 10 fighter yet.
There is only a few fights that make sense for Vitali now: - winner of Chagaev vs Valuev, but this fight will only be available by the second semester. - Haye, Wladimir is already almost set to fight him. - Povetkin. I believe he will rather wait for his mandatory shot at Wladimir. - Arreola. Free if he beats Mccline - Dimitrenko. Free. After that it's pretty much a waste of time. Vitali vs Arreola will be a good fight, although Arreola may have close to zero chances of winning. At least Goossen has been putting him against competition that resembles the Klitchkos as close as possible and that may help improve his chances quite a lot.
It would definitely be exciting while it lasted. The Valuev-Chagaev fight is unlikely to happen, as neither of their promoters would let them anywhere near the K-Brothers. Im all for it
I'll give credit to Vitali for wanting a crowd pleasing fight in the USA. Arreola is risky, in the sense that he CAN'T lose -- Vitali's legacy would be instantly pulverized if he lost! Beaten by an inexperienced, overweight guy with no Top-10 names on his resume would be a nightmare! I can only assume that Vitali perceives virtually no risk in this fight and senses perhaps an exciting looking match-up that will end in clear KO fashion. True, Maskaev is boring at this point (let's not waste Vitali's last few bouts). Valuev would be intriguing, but I don't see that opponent wanting any part of Vitali (especially not his punches!). Dimitrenko is very dangerous: Virtually the same height & weight as Vitali 10 years younger with a longer reach! Better level of opposition than Arreola Proven ability to go 10+ rounds & win He is just lacking marketability and name value (and charisma).
Great post. I agree 100%. The only other option not mentioned that might make sense is Chambers, if he convincingly beats Peter.
