the 70s was a long time, when in the 70s do you mean, holmes wasnt at his best the same time as ali. Or do you mean the 70s overall, because I dont think there is ever a time in the 70s when anyone could argue they would have him outside the top 4 (personally I would have him higher)
In the early to mid 70's it would be all between Ali, Foreman and Vitali with Vitali very possibly emerging on top. Yes, emerging on top. In the 70's - Ali, Foreman and Holmes are the only ones to give him really, really tough fights imo.
He beats the **** out of frazier..i actually give Norton better chances then Frazier against Vitali; he's all wrong for Frazier. Vitali-Foreman would be competitive for 4-5 rounds till Foreman gets dragged into deep waters where he runs out of gas and gets stopped. Holmes had the skills but no power...he could outpoint Vitali. I don't see 70's Ali beating Vitali. Prime 60's Ali is another story. Bottom line, i think Vitali would be quite comfortably in the top 3.
this is correct, also jimmy young could beat vitali imo because of styles allthough im probably in the minority on that one.
Agreed, and depending on WHICH end of the decade he fought in, he'd probably be even higher and may even have briefly held the crown. Ali, Holmes, and maybe Foreman are the only 3 that would have my sure vote to beat him, and they'd have to be at their very best to do it. I can't see a late 70's Ali nor the unmotivated Foreman of the Young fight beating him. Frazier would be a very tough fight, but I think Vitali is just too big for him. Norton, Quarry, Ellis, Bonavena, and Shavers all get sparked.. Jimmy Young might give him some problems due to his awkward boxing style and durable chin..
I don't think there is a boxer in today's top 10 that wouldn't be ranked inside the top ten during the 70s. Yes there was some good boxers like ali foreman holmes, then behind them you have the likes of Norton and frazier, but after them there really are some poor boxers ranked highly. mac foster henry cooper Jose Ibar Urtain Jose Luis Garcia Jack Bodell Joe Bugner Ernie Terrell Jose Roman Chuck Wepner Henry Clark Larry Middleton DUANE BOBICK Randy Neumann Howard Smith Johnny Boudreaux Stan Ward Kallie Knoetze Alfredo Evangelista All were ranked in the top ten by ring magazine annual ratings, many inside the top 5 or even top 3! So I would say even if you rate the top 4 from anytime in the 70s higher than 2011 top 4 . I think you would have to agree the overall standard of the division is higher today.
I smell Bull****! you start like a thread a day and its almost only about the kbros (mostly the older bro) and almost nothing outside of the heavyweight division. Man you Klitlickers are worse than *******s!
Yeah, definitely would be. I think he'd have trouble with a few from that era but he'd certainly be fine.
:rofl Neither ALI or LARRY beat anyone with a pulse soundly in the 70s . Larry gets thrashed and so does the 70s ALI . The 67 version of ALI was truely a physical wonder and Id favour him . The 70s are an urban legend .:deal
