Screw Mike Tyson and his stable of White Tigers, etc............ I already posted on the front page of ESB that Tyson's TWO best opponents stemming from his first reign from 1986 to 1990 were "Bonecrusher Smith & Buster Douglas." In 1987 it was Smith who was hulking with muscles galore.. Yes, he lacked certain skills, but he had the size and power to seriously hurt Mike Tyson had he gone for it and landed some bombs.... Too bad Bones Smith came to merely hold, hug, grab and go 12 rds on HBO...........

The other top dog was Buster Douglas.... Say what you will, but any mo-fo who has followed the fight game knows that B.D. at 231 pounds put it all together in Japan and kicked some ass....... Too bad Buster Douglas was incapable of keeping his eye of the tiger.......

The next guy who was capable was Tony Tucker in Aug. of 1987........... BUT! Inspite of all his tools and natural boxing ability, Tucker froze in the limelight on HBO and did his own version of hugging bones by rds 3 & 4..........

Poor Pinklon Thomas was shot to hell going into that fight with Tyson on HBO in the Spring of '87....... Thomas basically walked the plank into a body of shark / Jaws infested water..... P.T. was skinned alive by Tyson...........

Tony Tubbs had talent and skill, but he also had a so-so chin....... Guess what? Tubbs' chin failed the moment it was tapped in round 2 over in Japan..........

Tyrell Biggs was as green as my grass is in the spring when his team tossed him in with a peak Tyson........ Can you say mismatch??? That HBO fight bit the rod......

Carl Williams..... No chin and a sucker for left hooks.... Nuff said..............

Larry Holmes and Mike Spinks are the GREATEST names on Tyson's resume from that era, but one was over-the-hill and the other guy was too weak to trade with Tyson '88......

I have all this stuff on video safely tucked away......

Tyson's reign from '86 to 1990 was really not all that tuff; just carefully planned........

    I never said he was.

    You're right.
Prior to his fight against Klitschko , he was supposed to fight Kirk Johnson. But the guy was injured , so he accepted the fight against Vitali. (he was supposed to fight klitschko in december anyway) but since he originally intended to fight 6 months later (in december , after beating Kirk Johnson) he could've accepted this rematch.

In other words his fight against Vitali wasn't supposed to be his last one...A majority of fans wanted to see this rematch. & for a good reason.

But of course , (wise decision on his part) he retired on top. a rematch would've been too risky. (the guy was leading 58-56 on all 3 judges scorecards , who knows what would've happened without the cut stoppage)..

Of course there's a saying that goes: "If my grandma had balls, she'd be my grandpa"

So no one will ever know for sure , but that's precisely why he should've accepted this rematch. To shut the naysayers & not tarnish his last victory. Fans weren't cheering for him at the end of the fight. (And not because it was in germany) , this one was in L.A

Bernard Hopkins has been a pro for 27 years
    Joe Calzaghe stayed 15 yrs..

I know it's not a competition of career endurance , but he could've accepted this rematch (especially since he originally intended to fight 6 months after his fight against kirk Johnson).

    correct.

Nop. My favorite is Povetkin (and Boytsov , Pacman & Mayweather...Not counting MMA of course)...And no , there is a double standard.

Lennox retired at age 38....Vitali is 38.
And as soon as he finishes an opponent by ud , his entire career is ridiculed.

Anything this guy does is worthless & mocked , and i get the feeling there's going to be a multitude of assholes who'll be ready to do the same at the end of the pac vs mayweather fight. (no matter who wins it).

I'm not against critics , Povetkin is my favorite & yet , as a fan , i realise that he doesn't have ko power , and yes he tends to get hit a lot but i also note all his qualities. (top notch workrate , endurance , great combos).

What i don't understand is the certainty of unproven, unverifiable claims. Such as this:
As a matter of fact , my position wasn't far fetched , in my first post , i said:
"i'm personally claiming 50/50 without certainty. Fair enough ? "

And in order to justify my reasoning , i posted a few stats & comparisons to get an approx opinion on this issue.

And yet , some posters kept sending these types of responses:

He was leading by one round people. A case could be made for 3-3 in rounds, I had Vitaly ahead 3-2-1 myself. Lewis was the one gaining momentum and dictating the fight in the last few rounds. People also talk like Lewis never bust peoples faces up before, Tyson had cuts on both eyelids when Lewis fought him, Rahman had a busted cheek.

If it was a freak accident I can see the complaints, but Vitaly was cut in his mouth, on his cheak and needed 88 stitches. Lewis was flabby going into that fight and had no bounce whatsoever. Personally, I thought he had lost a step by the time he fought Tyson. I think Vitaly is a great fighter, greater than Wlad imo, but people make to much of the cards.

I completly agree with you. Tyson run from 1986-1990 was not all that impressive. Holmes was way over the hill and Spinks came back from retierement for a huge payday. Just look at Spinks, he started below 180lb and fought Tyson at 220lb or something. He was just not fighter who could cope with Tysons agressivnes.
Tyson favourite victims where about his size/weight, he had more problems with taller heavier fighters. Just look at the stats of the fighters who went the distance with him, those are the heavier/taller ones of his opponents. Now match him against Vitaly who is 3 inches taller and 20 pounds heavier than everything a prime Tyson fought. Tyson would have problems to force his style on Vitali.
It would be an interessting matchup, and it won't be an easy task for Tyson.

People' s memory gets soft when Quite a lot of people tend to misremember certain things and treasure fighters and fights very highly when having a trip down memory lane.

Lets be honest the vast mayority of those long gone fighters cant hold a candle to today's big boys!!!

    Today#s pro boxing is very profesional,very sciencetific,too.

Ali had a quite sloppy defence,Joe Louis' chin wasnt the best out there,Thyson was totally overrated beating up American janitors and bouncers without any competition from the countries of the former soviet union.
I get bored silly when watching old fights of Larry Holmes.
Cant believe that some guys here think that he is an all time great!:patsch

IMO Vitaly couldhold his own against any of those guys, probably be able to beat 95% of them.
