Now that Vitali Klitschko's career is officially in the books, how does he rank among the greats? How will history remember Vitali's career? In your opinion, is he HOF material?
HOF material? definitely, but he should retire. K2s choke on the division is to strong. they're munching up everybody, they don't even give the prospect time to develop
He beat Sugar Manuel Charr. He is above Ali now and right behind Sugar Nikolai Valuev. Maybe he can be called sugar now too?
Have to agree with Bremen here.Whatever your view of Vitali he's a first ballot certainty and it's not remotely debatable.
Undoubtedly a hall of famer, but his all time ranking sits at about 25 with no career defining wins or all time greats and a very weak resume.
I'd like to see someone have a go at proving this statement wrong. Right on the button description of Vitali's legacy.
He has an atrocious resume, especially since his comeback. A succession of novices, well past-prime fighters, journeymen and outright bums. No reason to put him anywhere near the top 20. Top 30 at a push, if only for his supposed H2H ability that saw him lose to the 2 best fighters he fought. You can argue for his longevity but there are at least 20 fighters I can think of that would have been more emphatic against his opponents and they didn't have a tag team partner.
You are right in that they are not giving the prospects a chance to develop. Look how few fights Chisora had, had when he agreed to fight Wlad and when he fought Vitali. Not even 20. There are a couple of fights that could be a possibility. Haye rematch or fight other brother, Povetkin fight. Shame Valuev disappeared as he could have given them a fight with some experience
01 Louis 02 Ali 03 Holmes 04 Foreman 05 Lewis 06 Frazier 07 Marciano 08 Tyson 09 Holyfield 10 Johnson 11 Dempsey 12 Liston 13 Jeffries 14 Wlad 15 Schmeling 16 Bowe 17 Vitali 18 Patterson 19 Charles 20 Walcott 21 Wills 22 Sullivan 23 Tunney 24 Langford 25 Jackson I doubt he will ever crack the top 10 even in retirement...Wlad probably has a shot at top 10 when their careers can be viewed in retrospect 5+ years after retirement when we can make a better guage of their careers. Vitali is great no doubt (even if I am not enamored with his style...hey I hate Ali and rate him 2), but Wlad has the greater career by my estimation.
I am not a vitali fan, and that is fine....but to pretend to be a boxing fan and allow those feelings to cloud your judgement are a detriment to any credibility you are striving for...please list these top 29 HW's who are greater than Vitali?
