It's puzzling but I think maybe if he and his brother had that dreaming of reigning together, maybe he was worried that going on would jeopardize his future career by causing more damage? I don't know. He made a judgment call. Liston supposedly made the same one, although he was in with a more dangerous opponent.

Completely irrelevant. It actually just substantiates the undeniable weakness of professional boxing. The best large sized athletes aren't pursuing the sport so you are left with old "champs", ex-cruisers, fat bums, gimps, weak sisters, and scrubs. Where do you live dude? Your posts are always ****ing ridiculous. How could anyone miss the fact that there is superb athletic quality in other sports but the men in the heavyweight division are ALL pedestrian on the whole? You need to visit some combines and pro camps and note the athletic talent that exists and that will put the current heavyweight division and its fighters in proper perspective. Anyone who is involved in the 3 major pro sports can tell you that the subsidized education of college/university as a feeder to these sports is pulling ALL of the talent. Pro boxing is left with the "C" guys. Vitali's success would be more meaningful if he wasn't also basically the largest heavyweight. Get off his nuts - it is ridiculous.

Vitali's biological age is probably closer to 35 than 39, considering he doesn't smoke, drink or do any drugs and keeps a very healthy diet all year around.

How was that Lennox at his worst? Maybe at the scales, but not mentally nor spiritually. Ironically this supposedly "out of shape" Lewis manged to gather his career-best win and most impressive performance against Vitali.

Where did Lewis look better fighting-wise? In what fight did Lewis show more heart, more willingness to go all out, showing a better chin, a better punch output, a burning desire to win the fight decisively at all costs?

The defensive masterpiece against Tua? The hugfests against Holyfield? The overly simplistic rematch against a totally outmatched nobody like Rahman? The "grab & lean on" against Tyson? Those fights were garbage compared to the Vitali fight.

Give Vitali another 50 years and he will be revered as a boxing god. What I learned is that time is always kind to boxers...

I think Vitali stops boxing by the end of 2010. He will deal with politics

i never said they are better than vitali! Helll i actually dont mind the older klit! Im just pointing out that its ridiculous when people say he didnt lose against lennox!

And against vitali hecame in extremely overweight and unfit! It was the last fight of his career in that regards i say it was the worst lennox. In his defeats to rahman and mccall they were kos which happen! He was still in the middle of his best years during that time beating excellent fghters before and after those defeats! And fair enough vitali probably wasnt at his best taking those fights at short notice.

I think his comeback is pretty impressive.. I only wish that some of these guys had shown up in better shape though... I mean really.... Sam Peter goes into one of the biggest fights of his life, and shows up at a fat 250 lbs.. A few fights later, he's in much better condition... Chris Arreola wasn't looking too good either...

    Right.

Doctors are paid to save lives, and that is what this one did for Vitali's.

DICKhead .. shut your pie hole. Gimps on ESB like you are an embarrassment. I started DIV1 ... and can tell you plainly they are NOT superb athletes. The division and sport is a train wreck from LACK of talent DUE SOLELY to the big 3's success and their relationship to the college/uni system. Your inability to SEE the truth means you're a ****. Got that part YET? There are HUNDREDs of guys in all three sports that are SUPERIOR athletes to the Clits. Got that part YET? The division is so poor that past greats like Holyfield remained competitive long past their due date and if Lewis had any motivition to keep fighting scrubs he would still be in the mix AT THE VERY TOP. That is as plain as plain can be. When old men can still compete there is a clear and undeniable reason. If YOU can't discern that these guys fighting currently are merely good at best (and far from great, extraordinary, and exceptional) and pedestrian to poor in the aggregate it means you are ****ing lame athlete (non-athlete) - a never was.

Now stfu, idiot. Get your ass to a combine or a camp and you'll be shocked at the athletic quality if you stupidly think you are seeing something in the current heavyweight division.
