Nope. he didn't save his LIFE. But the doc DID save his eye. Without that stoppage, Vitali would have been a cyclops.
The current heavyweight division is very strong. Pro boxing is at his best times without any doubt. The competition is strongest than ever due to worldwide spred popularity. It was not like this 20 or 30 years ago. Back then pro boxing was located only in few countries. It was basically out of Europe and Cuba. Nowadays Europe and Cuba are involved and it makes pro boxing stronger. Now it is the best athletes from all over the world. It was not like this 20 or 30 years ago.
You, Sir, are overly aggressive with your post. This is obviously a fan thread, and if you are not a HW boxing fan, you are free to leave.
And have YOU heard that professional boxing is open now to more people than US college students? I agree, there are hundreds of athletes, who are superior to the Klitschkos. In different sports, they would perform differently. Federer would beat them in tennis, Tiger Woods on the Green, Schumacher in Monaco. Have you heard, that Vitali was a world-class kickboxer before he turned to boxing? I will not deny that there is talent for HW boxing in the US youth. But to say, that the division lacks prospects is solely the fault of the three major US sports (football, basketball, and icehockey, I assuem), is rather short sighted.
Yeah, Peter was a belt holder with a record of 30-1 (23 KO). At 6'2'' and 247 lbs he was a midget. Gomez was 44-1 (36 KO), former CW belt holder, 230 lbs, 6'31/2'', beat McCall twice. A bum for sure. Arreola was an unbeaten prospect, a raging unstoppable bull. Kevin Johnson was an unbeaten prospect, a master of defense. Both highly ranked by the Ring magazine, and boxrec.
Both Vitali and Wlad are great fighters, but they are also one of the most boring heavyweight champions of all time!! I would rather watch UFC than these two fighting.

Peter!? your joking right. Gomez was a former CW belt holder. Exactly whats he done at heavy. Arreolas best win is against a 66 year old Mcline and ****ING TRAVIS WALKER. Kevin Johnson? come on man Thats so sad you tried to justifty his resume with them names. His resume is horrible
Bottom Line is that after Klits beat a guy he becomes derided as terrible, no talent bum...Imagine if the bro's weren't in the division...there would be close fights between these "bums" and people would say..."look how good the division is!" Because the K-bros have fought anyone and everyone that would step up and beat them so convincingly it makes the division look bad. Good boxers who could have been something had their careers stopped and nailed into a coffin by an iron fist and a steel hammer!
But he played College baseball atsch that makes him an expert on professional athletes you know especially in contact sports... afterall ive never seen a fat pitcher or anything... atsch but hey those are athletes on the highest level :dead
Just because there might be better physical athletes in the Big 3 (as you say), that doesn't mean a whole lot when you consider how much more difficult the sport of boxing is than running around a field playing a 'ball sport'. You're not getting punched in the face and you're not dealing with the same kind of overwhelming mental strain that one might in a combat sport like boxing. There's a lot to be said for an athlete who boxes compared to one that goes out there to have fun...
Good post, and that's why I was gutted when the rematch didn't happen. There were mitigating circumstances with both fighters, Lennox won legitimately in a close fight, and I saw enough to want to see how it would've went down with each man having a full training camp and being 100% in shape. Lennox-Vitali I was like an appetizer at a Michelin-rated restaurant where they throw you out before you get to the main course. Great, but I can't help feeling shortchanged.
