wat, all of vitalis opponents suffered from this personality flaw? everyone?? wat are the odds of that?

or was he simply picking them weak, much more likely!

    kliturd misses the obvious.

Don't know about Chisora, but Robert Helenius was definitely top 10 or even top 5 when Derek was robbed against him and everyone knew it. He also gave Fury a good fight the first time around and handed Malik Scott his first loss in 36 fights. The man was no bum. As I stated before, there really is no question in my mind as to who would have been undisputed champion had Wlad either lost or retired anytime between 2008-2012.. No one during that time frame was beating Vitali and if we're honest, probably no one shortly thereafter either had he continued. He could have sealed his claim by easily beating perhaps 2 or 3 top raters in elimination bouts and we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

It's not that amazing when you look at the actual fighters and not their ratings.

Chad Dawson practically shut out Adamek, too. Juan Carlos Gomez had been "Rated" the top contender before, when he was blown out in about 90 seconds by Yanqui Diaz. We know what Solis and Arreola are.

    Who's left? The "Kingpin?"

    I mean, c'mon.

I think Vitali was an oustanding fighter and one of the best older heavyweights to compete. But he should've won every round against those guys. In fact, he should've wiped out all of them and not gone many rounds to begin with.

But I attribute him dragging those fights out to his age. He was faster when he was younger. The loss of speed made him a less effective puncher as he got older.

But those guys listed were "nothing" special at all. Nothing. How many rounds he lost isn't as telling as how long some of those horrible guys lasted with him.

    Yes it is amazing.

To put in into perspective Ali lost more combined rounds to Blin, Wepner, and Mildenberg than Vitali did in his entire comeback vs. much better completion than the above names.

Not good enough? Ok Joe Louis lost more rounds to Tommy Farr alone than Vitali did vs. every man he faced in his comeback.

Want more? Larry Holmes lost more rounds to Carl Williams than Vitali did vs. every man he faced in his comeback.

Were were these opponents of Ali, Louis and Holmes ranked?!

Need I say more? It didn’t matter if they were ranked #1 #2, #8, #10, or were unranked. They all looked the same when facing Vitali. Only a dominating fighter can do this and those who did it when they were in their primes.

After their shots Wlad's challengers have disappeared up their own fundaments too.

Povetkin might still do something if he keeps off the pastries but the others were as unremarkable and unheralded as Vitali's competition imo Whom out of them has gone on to better things?

I know its meaningless but for whatever its worth Chagaev is still hanging around with a plastic title and just blasted out another former Wlad victim in one round. And as already mentioned Povetkin is doing fairly well and clinging to the #2 spot.

What does matter is were they any good ? And the answer is NO!!!!! So it's no surprise they have ceased to be relevant in today's scene ,some would say most of them were not relevant to begin with and I would be among their company.

Chagaev knocking out the scared stiff Pianeta just emphasises how little Pianeta deserved a title shot in the first place. Povetkin we have covered.

Can't really dispute any of this..... And I'm a massive Vitali fan. Much of Vitalis legacy is based on his hypothetical h2h greatness(which I'm a firm believer in, but there's no way to prove 100%) his toughness/grit, and his well fought losing effort to Lennox. He's definitely HOF worthy and a great, but his legacy pales in comparison to his younger bro.

Perspective? What kind of random grouping is that?

Ali knocked out a prime Foreman to regain the title. You can add up all the Charr's and Sosnowski's and Gomez's you want ... Vitali would never have come back if he had to fight a prime Foreman coming off blowouts of Frazier and Norton.

Vitali came back because he saw ordinary Jameel McCline bounce Peter off the floor three or four times and figured he was easy pickings. And he was. (Even though Vitali couldn't drop him.)

Stick that in your "perspective." :deal

Physical damage. Much more of a subtraction than the mental part of things. And much harder to overcome.

Name the heavies that have ever bounced back from a real bad sustained beating.

You're right about his opposition n comeback.

But keep in mind that Vitali came back after 4 year lay off, and won 10 title fights in a row, including beating reigning WBC champ Peter and top-10 (at that time) Gomez, Arreola, Solis and Adamek.

Impressive list of wins? No. Impressive comeback? Without any doubt.

And yes, Wlad has much deeper resume than Vitali but I don't know who'd win h2h.

Oh so now you know why Vitali came back.

Wlad could not floor Peter in his first fight either, don't you think he hit hard enough??? Vitali beat Peter around the ring and would have floored him if not for the TKO.

On the topic of Foreman, Briggs said Vitali hit harder than him.

Vitali beats the gassed Foreman in 1974 rather easily. Foreman looked like **** in that fight if you want the truth. Indeed post Zaire Foreman almost lost to Ron Lyle, and lost to Jimmy Young, so how good as Ali's biggest win?

Simply tell me why all time greats ( Ali, Louis, Holmes ) struggled vs. lesser competition while Vitali past his prize cleaned house in the top ten. If you can't then I'm disappointed in your " perspective "

My answer is because he was great.

Adamek was not top 2. He wa ranked number 3. He looked horrible in there vs Vitali. A year later he lost 116--112 on my card against Eddie chambers fighting with 1 arm

Johnson Arreola solis have all been proven to not be world class

Again Vitali missed out on big names pulev povetkin fury chagaev

Wlad beat men who beat Vitalis best opponents 08-12

    well said.

The trouble is most folks do the eye test to ****yze fights. And from the shoulders up & never a guy's defense. But if you watch the sport long enough, to guy's like us.....we like how different fighters use different things for effectiveness. That's what counts is effectiveness & not style points from a classic style.

An interesting thing to consider is the opposite....how many of the classic stylists could have fought like the effective types? Joe Louis would have a ton of troubles fighting with the Vitali style. Lots of guys would.

But you have to learn to appreciate. So for every Ricardo Lopez there is another guy being effective like a Joe Calaghe. It'd be a boring sport if everyone out there tried to do the exact same thing.
