Pavlik fought two "final" eliminators before he got to Taylor. The WBC is famous for having eliminator after eliminator. If he only fought one eliminator he probably isn't mandatory since there are two guys between him and Wlad in the rankings. Why isn't the #1 and #2 ranked contenders mandatory? Never mind. Basically the Klitchskos were cerebral fighters, both PHDs and good technical big guys, Olympic medallists who were brought up in Germany and found out that their punch was devastating ( against Herbie Hide and so many other Euro and German fighters have failed such as Shultz, Krasniqi, Hide, Bruno) so they gave it a try overseas and in the US and sometimes, a few times failling ( Vitali against Byrd and Lewis, Wladimir early on and then specially against Sanders, Brewster and being very lazy, very conservative and not taking risks in big moments like against Iggy and against Haye which came to be, let's be honest, snore fests which must have had an impact on HBO just like the Hopkins fights lately) and other times winning big like Wladimir against Chagaev, Thompson, Mercer, McCline, Austin, Rahman, Brewster II, Byrd II, Peter II, Chambers and Vitali specially against Sanders, Williams, Peter, JC Gomez, Arreola, Briggs, Adamek but they really didn't get to the spotlight in the US like they probably deserved to maybe b'cause they were based in Germany ( even tho three or four language fluid speakers and having houses and training out of LA and under Manny Steward) and people remember Joe Louis and Max Schmelling... Maybe cause they are pround to be americans and can't forget Ali, Holmes, Spinks, Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, like British can't forget Bruno, Lennox Lewis and keep their minds on Chisora, Tyson Fury and David Haye who seem to entertain people more either outside or inside the ring. Bottom line, Vitali and Wladimir may have sadly realized that they were putting themselves into risk without much recognition exception made in Germany, Ukraine and Eastern Europe. Guys like Helenius and Wach may get to realize the same...

so the thought of vitali wanting to end his career on a fat, no name fighter with 21 fights total with his biggest win off a 41 year old ray austin coming off a loss....with a stay busy fight waiting on the wbc to hand him a shot by going 8 rounds with winning a by decision against a 13-10 fighter

Stiverne could have been fighting Vitali in Sept, but he got lazy and out of the gym for 6 months or more waiting on the call to come for the April bout. The call didn't come b/c Adamek was labeled by the WBC as the mandate for that fight. It's all in the semantics.
Had Stiverne stayed busy fight 2-3 more fights since his "eliminator" he could've rolled through another 3 Clevel guys like Ding and Arrich or MacNugget and maybe thrown in a blevel fight vs a guy like Walker or Meehan. All winable fights and all worth keeping him on the radar for this fight.

Had he done as many were suggesting and forgotten baout what he though was a mandate, he coulda actually earned on by stacked 4 more KOs on his record against top 100 opposition.
26-1(24KOs) with good wins over Manswell, Austin, Arrich, Ding, McNugget, a green Lawrence and a solid win over Walker or Meehan. Those types of wins and that kindof activity inside a yr for a young gun is what it takes to get noticed when your DKP.
The K2 have made it well known that DK can have one fight and one fight only, and he very rarely comes to the tables with those types of contracts.:-(
