he is a great example of why heavyweights ****ing suck today.
when you have to say what you just did about him and he is supposed to be a guy trying to make a statement and put people on notice and he goes 8 rounds with a 10 loss cruiserweight? as he awaits his title shot? people are so used to mediocre crap but i think its shameful...he
#1 fought a 40 year old ray austin in an eliminator who was coming of a loss a year earlier in an "eliminator" with a disgraceful performance and got DQ'd/...yet he was rewarded with a second chance?
#2 year lay off and this is the big opponent?
#3 while holyfield was ranked #1 in the world, he fought alex stewart who was like 24-0 all by ko...no a cruiser with 11 losses....
he should have blown that dude out the water...pathetic :bart

The fact that Stiverne stank in his last fight means all heavyweights suck?

    Great logic there.

Brandon Rios sucked last night -- I guess all lightweights suck as well.

The only reason some claim that heavyweights suck today is because of their bias against The Klitschkos!!!!!!!

    No. It's because it sucks.

Just like Holmes' or Marciano's eras.

That doesn't mean they weren't great fighters, though.

I didn't get to see the fight but on paper it does not look good for Stiverne. Maybe he needed rounds. Remember Chisora went the distance against a "nobody" right before the fight with Vitali.

Vitaly- Has literally dominated everybody he has faced since his comeback.
Wladimir- Last though fight was in 2005 against Samuel Peter. Haye hit with a few good shots.
Vitaly is basically beating up sparring partners and Wladimir is boxing guys who are two steps below him.

"Koko Bware" Stiverne hurt his hand in the second round, he said that's why he held back a little.

Mercer had just turned 41, and was coming off a decent run. Also, he'd never been hurt previously in a fight.

He'd railed off about 7 straight wins against Clevel opposition and Wlad was considered relatively untested at the Blevel himself. Mercer was also in good form considering his career and was just 4-5 yrs removed from his outstanding performance against Lewis, his last loss prior to Wlad.

Please don't throw that out there. It was well know Mercer wasnt prime but he was a measuring stick for Wlads power at the highest level.

And as for Rahman, he wasn't prime either, but at 34 he was anywhere from shot. A bit top heavy at the time, but it was likely to offset the size advantage that Wlad had.:nono

I agree. . . He was disappointing in his fight against Austin. . . 41 year old shot-to-shyt Ray Austin was boxing his ears off for 7-8 rounds, before Stiverne caught him with a right hand. . . Austin was more fatigued than anything like you said. . .

He is short, squat, and slow. . . No real skills to speak of. . . He does have a real strong overhand right, but that's about it. . . Don't have him beating any of the top 10 HW's right now. . .

Stiverne has serious hand speed. Nobody argues with that.

Except for when Holy dropped a Prime Mercer, 7 years earlier.
