Are you seriously saying that Lewis didn't hurt Vitali. By the end of the fight Vitali had half his face bust open and was draped all over Lewis like a cheap suit. Here's what you should have said;
He did not hurt Vitali. Though he did momentarily stun him with the first of the two uppercuts. But Vitali was not hurt by those shots like he was hurt against Sanders. Getting cut isn't the same as being shook-up by a punch. The punch (or whatever it was) that caused Vitali's cut didn't hurt him, though it resulted in a cut. The scariest thing for Lewis and his fans, in that fight, was that Lewis basically had a blind-in-one-eye fighter in front of him and he still wasn't hurting Vitali while landing full-out punches Vitali couldn't see coming. Shortly after the uppercut landed in the 6th, midway through, Vitali was walking Lewis around the ring. Bullying him. If you can't capitalize on that kind of scenario, you know you're not beating that guy straight-up (in a situation where he doesn't suffer a fluke cut). That's probably why Lewis never took the rematch.
The only reason the Klitchko's are dominant is because there is no super heavyweight class as there should be. They have un unfair advantage over most of their opponents. To their credit, they no how to capitalize on their physical advantages, but if the playing feild was more leveled, like it is in the lighter weight classes, the K brother's would not be as dominant as they are today. In my opinion, there needs to be a super heavyweight class that starts around 230 to unlimited. That would make the lazy fat heavyweights like Solis and Arreola get in shape to make the heavyweight limit, and the big behemoths like the Klitchko's, won't be able to artificially pad their records by beating up on undersized opponents.
The Klits would look like prime Mike against the likes of Tye Fields, Michael Grant, Julius Long, Tyson Fury and Valuev. There have been many big heavyweights in history. To attribute the Klits' success solely to their height is cheap. No one was saying that **** about Lewis and Bowe.
With Vitali in particular, you have a huge opponent, menacing. You know he's durable and you know he beats people up and ruins them. You cannot out jab him, your not going to physically bully him and it takes an incredible amount of physical and mental effort to keep away from him. Most defend and get stopped after taking a beating. Wlad is more physical and gifted in terms of speed and skills, but is vulnerable physically and mentally. Imagine a younger Vitali with Wlad's skills, power and techinque but his own size, stamina, belief and chin? That would be the ultimate fighter in my opinion.
Who would they beat up then?! Who is out there as big as they are that does not: 1. Has considerably less athleticism, coordination and boxing skills, 2. Does not play basketball of a living. ???
Vitali is a tough matchup for any HW ATG in history. I laugh about all those guys claiming any ATG cruising to an easy UD against Vitali. It's quite a task to win an easy UD against this so-called terribly one-dimensional and limited robot. He's harder to hit than people think and although he's not the fastest puncher he has a very good instinct of where his opponent will be. He has an uncanny ability to time other fighters. Thanks to his punch output he's very hard to outpunch. You want to land on Vitali you better be able to take a punch. Anyone's best bet to win against Vitali is try to bust his face open or force some injury on his shoulder or knee. If you can't inflict any physical damage or open wound on him then you're **** out of luck.
