:good Nobody has ever come even close to that against Lewis. No wonder that the idea of the rematch invoked nightmares in his head.
Vitali landed 158 punches, Lewis 100. I am a big Lewis fan but that was a lucky win, cut caused by a thumb. Nobody has outlanded Vitali so far.
You a lot are bunch of one eyed idiots. I watched the Lewis Vitali fight, Lewis won, no question. Lewis worked the cuts which is what he supposed to do. Lewis was out of shape before he got in the ring, Vitali was tired as was lewis by the end of the 6th. Vitali was in better shape, better motivated, hunger, younger and still lost. If I decided to argue like you lot I would have oliver McCall and Ramman ahead of Vitali. They both Koed a could not be assed lewis, Vitali could not do the same think to an older less motivated Lewis.
I have talked with Cedric Boswell who has sparred Vitali a few times and he said it is very hard to hit him. Said you don't know when he is going to throw a punch and when he does and you go to counter he is already leaning back and way out of range. Said that slapping hook Vitali throws has some deceptive power behind it also.
Many judges take punch output into consideration and rightly so. Workrate is as important as landed shots and percentage of landed shots.
I suspected you never saw this fight, now you've confirmed it. Was Vitali drapped over Lewis at any point in the 6th round, and if so, why? Also regarding Viali walking Lewis around the ring..I would like to know precisely when in the 6th round this took place and why if all you say is true, did Lewis actually win that round. In the fight I saw, Vitali was hanging all over Lewis in the 6th and Lewis was trying to get away to finish him off. I don't know what fight you saw but it was obviously different than the one I saw. I've got nothing against Vitali and I think he'd be tough for anyone but at the same time, you don't need to modify history to show your support for the guy.
he is only as good as the guys he faces.he is a dominant fighter but against all bums.you got to start putting things in there proper perspective.
It all matters, but there's no substitute for actually inflicting damage on your opponent, that said, in many cases that's a subjective assessment.
I've watched the fight probably 20 times. Just watched the round again, and it's even worse (for Lewis) than I remembered. Here are my notes for the round from when Lewis landed the uppercut and Vitali started muscling him and walking him around the ring. I am in the middle of work, will try to post more later: * 2:03 left in round, VK takes uppercut then immed grabs Lewis and walks him backwards * Clinch, then grabs him again and walks him back into the ropes * Then another clinch, and walks him back again. Muscled * Another clinch, then dirty boxing uppercuts (1:39 left in round) * 1:10 left in round, VK pressing forward again as tired Lewis retreats. LL had done no follow up on punches, had nothing left here. VK muscling him, smothering him * VK lands good right hand at 1:04 left in round * Then grabs LL and walks him back to corner * Clinch, walks him back again. LL big sigh/breath right before this * 48 secs left, clinch VK walks him back (VK knows LL tiring; wearing him down) * 34 secs left, throw, then pushes LL back. Again. All round. * 32 secs left, pushes LL back then lands short right as pushing him. Delib strategy. And its working ---- Hurt LL, whose legs gave ---- VK delib decided to rough LL up, and it's working. Using dirty tactics vs him on purpose ---- Payback for LL's questionable tactics * 25 secs left, LL breathing heavy in clinch and has smile on his face like right hand not hurt him ---- He's worn down severely * 15 secs left, VK leaning on LL to wear him down more. Genius * End round, LL lands meaningless uppercut. Exhausted. Plops on stool. * * In summary, Vitali was deliberately leaning on Lewis and muscling him to wear a fading Lewis out. And it was working. If that had been an MMA bout, what Vitali was doing would be called "dirty boxing," which is muscling a guy, tying him up, then landing shots off the break. Lewis was getting mauled in the round, and only landed two uppercuts, the second of which had no effect on Vitali at all. I had not realized how much Vitali was wearing Lewis down by laying on him. After reviewing this round, it is much clearer. Thanks for the prompt on that! Lewis was gone, done. He could not stand up to Vitali's mauling of him and he simply wasn't landing -- or throwing -- enough punches to do anything to Vitali. And that was just halfway through the fight. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind, at all, after reviewing that round that Lewis was going to be knocked out, probably within three rounds. Vitali was much stronger than him in the fight, at that time, and was consciously employing a strategy to wear Lewis out even more. And he was hurting Lewis with punches. Lewis was finished, and escaped with a victory the only way he possibly could have. Which he knew, and which Larry Merchant knew when he interviewed Lewis afterward. You know the rest.
You're delussional. What me and the judges call drapped and hanging on for dear life, you call walking him around. Good think your not a judge, cause ALL the judges gave that round to Lewis. The only thing Lewis was wearing out in that round was his fists on Vitali's chin.
