Well he's never had massive one shot power, he'd stop his opponents through accumulation of big shots. It's taking longer now for him to stop opponents as Vitali has become more conservative with age. I notice even if he senses he's hurt his opponent, he won't go all out to try and stop them now and is just content to continue peppering them. This is probably to conserve energy and not risk punching himself out. His stamina can't be what it was when he was in his prime.
Other factors to consider for a reason why Briggs did'nt go down was........Vitali worked his right hand too much that you could see Briggs turning and riding with the shot to minimize the effect. Even when Briggs was visibly buzzed, Vitali continued to hunt with the right hand which Briggs instinctively knew thats what Vitali was throwing and he'd brace himself to take that shot. A few times during the fight Vitali threw some left hooks. It is during those times that Briggs face showed more concern. It just seem to me that if Vitali would have incorporated a few more lefts in his output, Briggs would have not been prepared to brace himself for impact not knowing if it was a right or left headed his way. Its the shot that catches you off guard and not aware its coming that puts you in deep trouble. Vitali did a terrific job of boxing, but that the one thing to critique him on......if he'd varied his lefts and rights a little more, he'd have gotten Briggs out of there. Briggs takes a good shot, and he's a big heavyweight, so he was'nt going to be easy at all to get out of there.
You disagree? List me some of these great fighters that Holmes beat. Same for Johnson or Marciano...............****, you can add Dempsey to that list along with Tyson. I'm tried of the same haters trying to rank on the current division while they forget that many great fighters ruled over weaker divisions. The reason that the Klitschkos have to fight guys like Shannon Briggs is because the best contenders are pussies that don't want to fight them or the Klitschkos beat them already. Povetkin, Solis & Haye won't step up so they have ttheir own version of the bums of the month.
Those were not peppering shots Vitali was dishing out.....thats the other brother Wlad that does that. Vitali's shots are heavy, and they hurt, no if's, and's, or but's!:deal
He doesnt throw his puches as well as he could. His left hook is terrible. TERRIBLE. He has a good right hand. Shannon is tough so he survived to the bell. Cant KO everyone.
are you saying that vitali hits harder than lewis and foreman?.......:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl do you not get embarrassed writing this ****? :think
He has very heavy hands that saps your mental and physical strength every time he lands. Danny Williams stated as much when comparing Vitali's power to Tyson's. It's not the sharp, shocking, concussive power that Tyson, Lewis, and Wlad possess. It's just consistent, high volume, beat the resistance out of you type thudding punches that guys like Margarito and Cotto use to break down opponents both mentally and physically and then you are ripe for the taking in the later rounds.
Vitali is 39 years old for Christ's sake, give the man a freakin' break. He doesn't have the stamina to punch his opposition into submission at will anymore. If they try to survive they can.
I don't think he does. But you've obviously never boxed. Vitali isn't one of the top KO punchers of all time because he throws huge shots. But he throws a lot of big shots that wear guys down and that how he wins. It's not as impressive, obviously, as Tyson or Liston. But it works for him and he wins about 98 percent of the rounds he fights.
