Yeah, but Vitali was better than Haye when prime and a true hw. Vitali's decline (that started with the Byrd injury) only brought him closer to people like Haye. Comeback Vitali would not need an MD (that in reality should have been even closer) to beat Valuev for instance. Haye would have been on his bike vs Vitali and very intimidated before the first bell sounded. We're digressing again as I don't care about Haye vs Vitali. Wilder is the only guy Vitali should come back for, Haye is not in position.
I didn't say prime Vitali. I said Vitali when he retired. Vitali v Wilder would be interesting and I reckon there's money to be won on a healthy Vitali even at an advanced age.
I think he got out at the right time to be honest. Time catches up with everybody eventually, and fighters have a finite mental prime, just as they have a finite physical prime. Also, ageing champions often lose to an unexpected opponent, as happened to his brother.
He would only have fought Haye if Wlad had lost to him. According to Vitali, in 2011, Bernard Boente flipped a coin in his office to determine who was going to fight him.
Vitali had no need to fight Haye after Wlad had beaten him. There was no motivation/no loss to avenge.
I don't think Haye would have had the right mindset to deal with Vitali. We saw how he performed against Wlad and Valuev.
