I can't believe Williams is still campaigning now, pushing 50. You do sometimes get match-ups where a guy is young enough to be the biological son of his opponent - but usually the younger guy isn't a thirty-something, as Kudukhov is. I have a feeling this won't go the scheduled eight. In fact, were it a betting option I would put the farm on this one getting fouled up by - well, fouls. Kudukhov was disqualified in his final match in WSB, against Vassiliy Levit of Kazakhstan, for repeated butting and stiff-arming to Levit's throat. Williams, on the other hand, gave notorious bighorn ram Evander Holyfield a taste of his own medicine in the Hall of Famer's penultimate fight - which ostensibly ended on a NC due to a cut Holyfield sustained when butted (although realistically he was getting his ass kicked and the ref used the cut as cover to help the aging CW and HW legend save face and escape without an embarrassing stoppage loss).
The main event of this card will be 2-0 super middleweight prospect Rokhman Aslanbekovich Akhmetkhanov taking on the obviously desperate-for-a-paycheck Ricardo Antonio "El Matador" Mayorga Pérez. Somehow that one feels like a worse cherry-pick for the Russians than Kudukhov's.
This is a wild coincidence IB. I was just reading old articles/interviews of The Tank last Friday and even rewatched a couple of his old fights. Always liked him, a good guy who when on form could give anybody a tough night. Can’t wait to to see him bring back the Conch Punch in this one!
Opponent change, Williams is out and replaced by former cruiserweight titlist (and long ago - like, in a different century - welterweight prospect and 154lb title challenger) Guillermo Agustín "El Felino" Jones.
