Read on russian news that while Vitaly invited Chris Byrd and Tony Tompson as sparring partners, Gomez will spar with Virchis.

Virchis is a brilliant choice to get yourself ready to fight Vitali. Still, he doesn't have half the speed but still the one who comes closest to emulate Big Daddy V...

I wonder if Vitali will accidentally KO Byrd as revenge for one of the two blemishes on his record?

:yep I doubt it, the Klitschkos are purpose driven. It makes sense to practice against 2 very slick southpaws and who's better than Byrd & Thompson when you need to fight a southpaw?

While Byrd is a good pick as a sparring partner to prepare for Gomez, I'm not sure if I would trust Byrd. He talks too much.

I would think Thompson would replicate the style and size of Gomez pretty well.

Agreed. Im a little surprised that they want Chris Byrd. Im also shocked he said yes. He is so small now. They must be using him for speed only.. I guess. Although i remember how hard it was to find good southpaws when Wlad was getting ready for Iggy and Thompson.

You know Byrd sparring with VK will give him motivation for his comeback, seeing as how he (Byrd) is one of only two to beat Vitali.

Unless, of course, Byrd can't land anything, and Vitali batters him all over the ring and brings back bad memories for Byrd. :blood

Being hammered in three out of his last four fights must have been quite a tough pill for Byrd to overcome. THe Shawn George fight was almost sad to witness, which was right after the Povetkin TKO Loss...........which was only one fight removed from the second Wlad pasting.

If he comes back and starts winning again against decent opposition, it'll be an impressive feat of self confidence restoration, regardless of the weight division he fights at.

Well he couldn't KO him when they fought, and never avenged the defeat in a meaningful way, so why try to do it in a meaningless way in sparring :huh
