He starts boxing in 1971, and in the following next decade goes 45-3-1.

Two of those losses are cut related, one in the 15th round of a fight in Italy.

He basically runs through the Philly stable of fighters by beating Eugene Hart, Bennie Briscoe and Willie Warren.

A win over Hugor Pasto Corro as well.

At the end of this near decade long run he takes Marvin Hagler into deep water, impossible as that might sound, getting a draw against the Marvelous One.

After that, a SD loss against Minter, and after that... well... the glory days are mostly over.

I honestly think Vito is one of the ultimate examples of will over skill.

He did not hit very hard, he wasn't overly fast or skilled.

What he did have was a unbelievable willpower and a ridiculous work ethic. And he made it work.

    Thoughts?

Vito made Hagler a better fighter.....after the draw Marvin knew he would have to take his game to another level.

    Yep, Vito is underrated.

Anutofermo vs Hagler 1 is a math where a draw is the right call. Antuofermo is under rated.

In the Hagler 1 fight Marv should gotten the decision, should have been 9-6 Marv maybe 10-5. Regardless Vito is very underrated considering his cut problem and lack of any seeming punching power.

Vito was all heart, and at least in 1982 his scar tissue looked worse in person than on TV.

I always kind of wondered who would have won prime for prime, Vito v Hamsho. I think Vito was more skilled if that applies between those 2.

Agreed, I believe I had it 10-5. Awful decision; one of the worst I've seen. Hagler dominated early and dominated the fight less so as the fight went on, but was still winning the rounds. It's definitely one of those fights where you see the loser doing better, and the assumption is that he's winning the rounds. He ain't, he just ain't losing them as badly. Regardless, Vito fought out of his skin and was as tough as hell.

True. Hope battered Antuofermo forcing the ref to intervene. He was a bloody mess of course.

Antufermo is rated correctly, a limited brawler, who you could cut with an evil stare, who used an incredible heart to achieve what he did.

A well managed fighter who beat old men to get his reputation, but seemed to fall short against the better primed fighters he fought.

Won a decision over the average Corro; but put in a prime performance in getting an unlucky draw with Hagler. Should of got a draw in the first Minter fight, but then it was all downhill.

Vito was a solid fighter with a tough chin, super strong and Big Balls...I watched him early on in his career with wins over tough fighters,Art Kettles(underated) Durango,Nixon,Macaloon,Willie Warren,Griffith,Hart,Briscoe and he was beating the crap out of Harold Weston Jr and ready to stop him but for a clash of heads, in those days they just called it a TKO in N.Y. but Vito had him reeling...I thought the 1st fight with Hagler showed what Vito was made of, he was less talented but his strength and will and Intestal Fortitude as Howard Cosell called it got him the draw...I did not think Hagler did enough to take his title and Vito shook Marvin up in the 13th and Called him in to brawl....I also thought he won the 1st fight vs Mintor...Scar tissue became Skin tissue and his protruding forehead made thing worse but Vito with out cuts gave them all good fights and I was shocked in the Hagler fight because I thought Marvin was the next superstar

Honestly, when you have the grit to go to war with Bennie Briscoe, the chin to take Eugene Hart's best, and the stamina to drag Hagler into deep water I don't know how you can't be considered a damn fine fighter.

I had it 8-7 Hagler, so I'm OK with the draw. Vito was a damn good fighter.
