Juan Roldan had faster hands, and never had stamina problems. Many close rounds though. Vito never knocked out any Top-Notch Middleweights. Except, maybe Eugene 'Cyclone' Hart. And Vito, did avoid Vinnie Curto. I think Juan Roldan might just have the proper right-hand bomb style to stop Vito.
Roldan was a Tonna-esque frontrunner though.IF he hasn't hurt Vito or taken control of the fight by the mid-rounds he might start doubting himself.
Vito was tough but busted open like a ripe tomato too often for me to give him much of a chance here. Juan's superior firepower shows early and terrific shots back Vito up. Antuofermo fights back bravely but his shots have little effect and don't discourage the stronger, ever-charging Roldan. I see the ref stopping this one on cuts within 7 rounds. A gruesome spectacle...
Since Vito was typically a slow-starter, those early Rounds may be a disaster. If its the same Juan Roldan who fought Frank Fletcher and James Kinchen, I think Vito would be absorbing too many hard shots. Juan Roldan by TKO in 7.
this is a match-up could go either way for me that's why i asked on here i knew i would get some good responses . a fight i would of liked to of seen made was a sibson/roldan contest say in 83 perhaps
I hate to go the cut route, but I have a hard time not seeing some head clashes and Vito busted up. I think Vito was better and could get a decision over 10 but wouldn't rule out a cuts stoppage win for Roldan over 15.
This is a bruising match-up, with either guy having the potential to win. I would however pick Antuofermo by decision. Vito's granite chin and underrated defense would enable him to surive Roldan's bombs. Also, Vito's stamina, aggression, and infighting ability would enable him to gain a lead in points as the fight progresses. Overall, I think Vito had more savvy than Roldan...that's the critical difference here.
Didn't Vito beat Curto in 1975? After that, in the late '70s, Antuofermo was a top rated middleweight, and Curto had drifted into inactivity and meaningless fights on the club circuit. Thus, Vito's itinerary against other top flight opponents would have prevented him from fighting Curto. A Curto rematch would have been a step backwards that promoters wouldn't accept.
I think Vito's toughness and experience gets him through a tough twelve rounder, to win a split decision.Juan just a step behind.
Roldan was a harder hitter and aggressive but Vito had a way of neutralizing a puncher by getting in close. Vito did it with Cyclone Hart and Hagler in fight one. This could be a war but Vito has a solid chin and gets on Roldan's chest to make it close SD win
In 1978, Curto wasn't rated by anyone, and Antuofermo was closing in on a title shot. Thus, it was beyond Antuofermo's power to go for a Curto rematch. Vito's backers had their eye on bigger fish.
And so it was to be....one of the worst world middleweight title fights of all-time inflicted upon us by an offensively inept Vito and reluctant Corro.
Hart was shot to **** when he fought Vito. Power may of still been there for a few rounds but he was done in every other regard.
