I don't mean to disparage Vito so much, but I don't think he would have even won the middleweight title if Hugo Corro had felt like doing some fighting. He handily outboxed Vito for the most part in the first 10 rounds before taking on this passive approach in the last five...almost like surrendering his title.
Even Howard Cosell pointed out during that telecast from Monte Carlo, Monaco on June 30 1979, that if Hugo Corro had thrown some more punches, he would have retained his title. The verdict was a split 15 round decision for Vito, who in November of the same year fought to a 15 round draw against Marvelous Marvin Hagler to retain his title.
