Wallace is a very bias boxing writer ... who cares what he says. He has never even boxed... MArtinez might give Pavlik some fits in the early rounds but Pavlik's better use of range and better power would be too much for him.. Martinez would not be able to hurt pavlik most likely.... Pavlik is king of 160 and is a tough customer for anyone at 160, and especially for someone moving up from 154
:good Martinez is one tough customer though, and I really hate that some of my fellow Pavlik fans are hating on Williams now... Williams is still an amazing fighter and more than most can handle at 147-154, I just don't think 160 is for him, and I never did. I have been a PW and Pavlik fan for a long time, and over a year ago when people were first talking about Pavlik vs Williams, I thought then... and I still think now --- that fight is all wrong for Williams. If Martinez and Williams have a rematch, I wouldn't be surprised to see Williams do A lot better... that first big Right hook he ate cost him dearly, he didn't really recover for at least 2 more rounds. Pavlik is very big for 160, and his style poses problems for anyone who fights him... against the top guys at 168, his physical advantages would not be as influential in the outcome of the fight..
i think hes right pavlik will have his work cut out for him. but i do think after the first couple rounds pavlik will be ok.. he said pavlik wont hurt him,, well i dont think thats true..and in all honesty i think kelly will wear him down with the body shots.. and i think williams took that fight a little too lightly and could of out right beat him if he didnt. but we will see..
People are under estimating the toll Kelly's punches take on his opponent. Drag out the old McKart line here... Williams wore him down with arm punches. Kelly will throw about as many but with 'feeling'. Martinez will wear down and probably fall late in the fight.
I have never been impressed by the writings of Wallace. He strikes me as a fan who thinks he's an insider. I mean, he's alright, but take a grain of salt with anything he states.
The size difference between Martinez and Pavlik isn't huge. And Pavlik is less dimensional than Williams. As for Paul Williams he will eventually grow out of his JMW frame, I believe he can no longer make WW.
