In the process, he was floored twice in the first round... nearly stopped... He would come back in round 6 and floor Narvaez and with 48 seconds left in the round, would get the stoppage... And this is a guy who fought Vincente Mosquera at Super Featherweight while Harris held the WBA junior welterweight belt... Taking into consideration that Harris been gone for a year and the guy he fought didn't make weight but they stil took the fight... Still, while the result was expected, the fact that he was dropped and almost taken out in the first round by a guy with 7 wins in his pro career, that to me would be a bit embarassing.. I hope this isn't a prelude of things to come as he travels to welterweight... Unless the all have the same result as it did tonight... a win...
Not surprised here either. I've seen much of Viv Harris and I can tell you he has a damn shaky beard, and that's putting it nicely. Don't think he'll ever achiee much seeing how bad that chin of his is and how bad i hear his work ethic is. he's another KO waiting to happen. Peace.
harris is a decent top 10 fighter at 140 he was rusty. let not jump the gun he does have a shakey chin though
All the trash talk that he talk after being starched by Maussa and Witter have taken a lot of him. Now he can even take a punch by a super featherweight.
Let me give you some background on Octavio before you all fly off the handle here, My kid who is an amateur was sparring him during the summer, my kid got his ass handed to him the first couple of times, since then my kid has boxed circles around this guy, he only has one hand and its the left hand, his right hand has nothing, no southpaw jab no south paw hook no nothing. Octavio loves to switch southpaw to righty so he can score that left hook to the body or a straight left hand, his trainer is an old bum of a fighter from Mexico, who dont know ****, my kid simply out boxed him in sparring by keeping him turning, throwing a series of shots and turn that simple. But there is another factor here as well, Octavio was sparring with Tony Margarito for the fight with Cotto, he does have a similar size and style that Cotto has, but he does not know how to "Box" He would often come into the gym and ask my kid to spar with him just as we finished putting two hours of work in the gym, My kid would spar him 3 rounds anyways and just use basic boxing and it would **** this guy off, so much so he would be begging for more rounds, He would have gotten more had he not asked us to spar when we already spent that much time in the gym. But honestly in sparring this guy about a dozen times he has only whipped my kid twice, he does not go light in sparring, he loves to try and look good in front of his wife, he is a punk if you ask me, personally I dont want to and wont continue to work with this guy becuase of that. However Octavio and his performance was probably due to two factors, the first being he has learned a great deal in sparring Margarito who is very strong, and second it probably took Harris a few rounds to realize this man only has one hand.
of the fight or of the sparring? I have no video of the sparring, usally I video sparring when we venture out of the gym usally. but the fight itself I dont have any video of that neither, my word is all I have as far as the gym stories.
I f*cking hate Vivian Harris. I went to the Witter versus Harris fight in Doncaster and i was full of respect for him and was sad he got spanked. However, the **** he came out with after about Witter having 'illegal wraps' and chemicals on his gloves was shameful. He is a bum hole. Someone wipe him.
And I remember the days when there was talk of a Harris vs Mayweather unification. How times have changed
Lamont Peterson was asking for Harris at one point.... AT 140, Vivian has the potential to be the best in the division.... His size, length, and good power could have put him on the top.... It's not even his chin that's the big issue... It's something mental... In the Maussa fight, he wasn't KO'd because of a bad chin... He was gassed out, and Maussa, to his credit, landed some good body shots... In the Johnston fight, he had Stevie down like twice or three times in the early going... But he let him back into the fight... Only for Harris to get the stoppage win... In the Lazcano fight, when Vivian should have been on the outside, he spends most of the fight inside.... Thus letting Lazcano back into the fight... I think he did get hurt in the process.... He did show that he can be effective inside, but when he was on the outside, he was having his way with Juan.... I think his best fight was the second Urkal fight... But it's not his chin thats the major factor here... Its everything else which in turn, opens up the chin.... Fighting inside when you should be on the outside... with in turn makes for a tough grueling fight.... add to that, questionable stamina... which means that chin is gonna be touchable as the fight goes late.... At 140, if he can stick to a good gameplan, he can be a world champion again.... At 147, he MIGHT be a contender... If he can stick to his strengths he could beat a guy like Baldomir and maybe even a Collazo... I still would question how he would do against bigger, taller guys of that division... I would like to see him fight Kermit Cintron....
