I thought Vitali Klitschko looked extremely poor against Johnson, his accuracy was dreadful by his usually very high standards. Fighting Solis could be a big mistake. I think he could lose that one, despite the Cuban's lack of professional bouts. If Solis takes this seriously, he might be ready. I'm all for VK's recent willingness to take on decent up-and-comers, but I think this could end up costing him big money for the Haye fight. Also, for Haye this fight isn't great. It will effectively end the career of Haye's nemesis or be a major step back for Solis, which is a fight I'd love the speedy Londoner to take once he's dealt with the Klitschkos (if he doesn't, obviously this is all redundant). I think Solis and Haye are the big upcoming stars of the division (Povetkin would have a fair argument) and, with their history in the world ams (Solis stopped Haye, but not after a great tussle - probably Solis' hardest championship fight in the ams from 01-05) it would have great marketing potential. That said, I'm not sure who else is out there for VK while he waits for the Haye fight.
If Solis comes in in GREAT shape, I'd give him a damn good shot at winning. We all know that's not gonna happen though.
Solis at his optimum weight would do much, much better than VK's last 4 opponents. But he'll likely come in around 260 and just be forced to sit at the end of Klitschko's jab.
Solis is the exact type of fighter that Vitali does best against. It's the pure boxer types with good defense & size that give him the most trouble. See the Peter & Arreola fights for evidence of this.
solis is leagues above those guys and has excellent boxing skills. Plus, judging by the Johnson fight, VK has faded. As others have said, IF Solis is shape, he's got a great chance. If I was his manager, though, I'd still get Solis a few more fights before challenging for the title.
Vitali has been on the decline this entire come back and his fight with Johnson was his worse performance and its not all because Johnson stunk the place up, simply put Vitali is declining. Solis could be the right guy at the right time to beat Vitali. He has fast hands and a good overall skillset. Solis would benefit from a few more fights first, if he were to fight Vitali at this time next year than I'd give the nod to Solis. But, I think Vitali still has enough to pull out a hard fought and entertaining decision victory over Solis.
Nah, its good to see the the best fights happening. I think Solis is more of an unknown quantity at the moment. But even if he outboxes Vitali in the early rounds I don't think he will keep it up for 12 rounds
Fair enough - I'm probably just thinking of what's best for Haye, easily my fave current fighter, rather than the division.
But Haye does not want to fight either Klitschko, and is en route to defending what should be Wladimirs belt, but is now a paper belt against John Ruiz. Also, we all know Don King does not want Klitschko to own the entire heavyweight scene, that's why he made a ridiculous demand with Valuev. And at this moment in time, David is King's ***** for the next few fights.:deal David ain't going anywhere near the Klitschkos, he already done stared into Vitalis and Wladimirs eyes and backed out, not once but twice.
Hopefully Solis comes in shape for the biggest fight of his life, if not I hope Vitali lays him out cold.
VK that fought Arreola looked great, the one that fought Johnoson I could have beaten down with my dick.
well, I just watched Solis - Barrett, and Solis isn't as big (height ) as I thought he was, looks like he's actually smaller than Barrett. Weight is another story, at 271 he's way too heavy. And why couldn't Solis knock out Julius Long?? Still, he does seem to be a good opponent, probably better than anyone Vitali has faced in his comeback. But Solis will have to get his weight down, Vitali can punch all 12 rounds, I don't think Solis could do that at his last fighting weight.
