Making a mistake, yes. Imo he just should have forked out for Valuev-from a business point of view that is, which I usually don't care much about. There's no love lost between Ukrainians and Russians, couple that with them both being giants and I think that would generate a lot of interest in Europe. Solis is going to show up fat like he always does, plod forward with his hands high and do no better than the rest of the fat heavies who do the same against the Klitschko's. He'll get hit from range all the way through and get stopped somehow or other. Skills go out the window when you're not in shape (one need only look at Toney) and as far as I know he hasn't been in shape once since turning pro. 5-10 extra lbs can mean you're out of shape, 50-60 extra lbs...well, fill in the blank.
He could've fought for all the marbles but didn't. Took the easy road, and didn't give the fans anything. :bart
He couldn't knockout Julius Long? Thats laughable, anyone with half-way decent power has knocked him out cold. I remember when Sam Peter made him look like a soft punching bag. Vitali will destroy him faster than he did Arreola.
If Solis can make it down to 250. I think he'll make it a competitive fight. Still a ****ing lot of weight for a guy his height though...
Hate em or not the Klitschkos try to fight everyone they can.(except Toney but do they really need that fight, really?)
I too think this is a dangerous fight for Vitali, but thats why i want him to take it.... if he loses he loses, hes at the tail end of his career anyways and its time to eather beat these young fighters, or lose and pass the torch, eather that or retire. Ya, we wont see Vitali vs Haye should he lose to solis, but id rather see Wlad fight Haye anyways, Vitali has looked like crap to me lately and im actually keen on him retiring. So id like this fight, if he wins, he beat a top prospect who may go on to do good things in the future, if he loses, he passes a torch, eather way win or lose id retire after this fight unless he turns back the clock and looks great. i hope the fight gets made.
Someone doesn't understand styles and how they can play a role in a fight. Hmm. I would have thought that Solis losing twice to Romanchuk or losing vs Pulev or Timurziev would have been tougher fights, considering he lost. Or his 2 narrow victories over Alekseev. And Povetkin, Adamek, Chambers, Boytsov, Pulev, Helenius all have equal or perhaps greater potential for success in the division.
Solis would be a tougher fight for Vitali than Haye and a better win on his resume in the long run. It seems like your whole post is centered around what is best for Haye not for Vitali or boxing. Why shouldn't a great amatuer like Solis win and become a star in the HW division?
Don't be so condescending. Before his first retirement, VK would have stopped Johnson absolutely no problem. Johnson's survival was down to his defence, but it wasn't as if the defence was watertight, the movement fantastic.
Perhaps I should have stated this as major championship fights. He won three world ams on the trot plus an Olympics and no one hurt Solis to the extent that Haye did.
