Vladimir Igorevich Shishkin vs. Sena Agbeko, 10 rounds @ light heavyweight

 

Both men missed the SMW limit, Shishkin by a full pound and Agbeko by ¾.

 

Round 1

Shishkin is squatting and stretching a hard jab into Agbeko's body sidelong. Agbeko moves around the ring, pushing off the ball of either foot, using the four corner defense and having a gander at Shishkin to size him up, feeding a few rain gutter left jabs down on the backfoot at the crouching, stalking Russian.

Round 2

Shishkin walking forward, baiting Agbeko with reach-in double jabs. Agbeko counters with jabs backing up and then springs in with flurries from awkward angles. Shishkin cut by the left eye, ruled by Mercante as from a punch. Shishkin is just jabbing on the way in, but not following up with any power punches, pressuring and then reining up cautiously, giving Agbeko respect. Shishkin finally starts pecking in with rights to the head and body in the final half minute and Agbeko flops an arm over his neck to throw him in a headlock.

Valid criticism of Shihskin's offense by Farhood, that his offense is a little too predictable - all straights, never a hook (or uppercut, which he doesn't mention). Pretty typical of the Kronk style, though - and until now he was under Steward disciple Javan Sugar Hill.

 

Round 3

Shishkin is working the ramrod jab pressing in, keeping both arms carried low to conserve strength on the way, now giving Agbeko's counters no respect - partly because fewer are coming now. Agbeko just zipping around the ring and riding the jabs, snapping pivots to avoid the occasional Shishkin right cross.
