Right. Wladimir was not prepard to go 12 rounds and than the Trainer Fritz Sdunek throw the towel (Puritty). His corner give no advice to be more patient. WK didn´t spar for the Sanders bout and was not well trained. Wlad has problem with his defense and now he is a better and completer fighter. He worked on the defense, foot work etc. and become a much better fighter with Emanue Steward in his corner.
Wlad would be better with Vitali's chin, but he wouldnt be a total fighter. There is more to Vitali than just his chin. He definitely has better reflexes than Wlad (although they both have very good reflexes), but Vitali comes into the ring with a different mentality. Someone else explained it awhile back...Wlad fights like a sportsman, someone who comes to win the fight however he's going to...usually ends up a KO, but sometimes the distance. Vitali had that mean streak in him...he visibly had no problem punishing you however he felt necessary. People can **** on Vitali if they want, but just watching his fights will always make the case as to which was the better brother, even though Wlad has a significantly better resume.
I dont really buy the Sanders excuses, and this is from a big Wlad fan. He got caught. Big deal, it happens. Sanders is a big puncher...both Vitali and Rahman have claimed they've never been hit so hard as by Sanders...I think Vitali said once that Sanders hit him, and he thought he caved his chest in! I don't really care much about losses, I always find the wins are what's really important.
i agree 100%. In my eyes watching them both fight there is no doubt that overall Vitali was a better fighter than Wald will ever be.
Physically Wlads better, Mentally Vitali's the better fighter. If Wlad had Vitali's chin, I feel he would of beat Sanders, but not Purrity or Brewster, as someone said before, they took his best punches and kept coming. If you watch the Vitali/Sanders fight closely, Vitali got hit with just as many monster shots as did Wlad, but he didnt crumble and fall apart. Lewis told Sanders, throw the bombs early, neither Wlad or Vitali is tough enough to take your best shots. Vitali proved that night that he was and always will be the tougher brother.
Wlad was very tired against Purrity and Brewster, they were more fatigue-related than chin-related. As for the Sanders fight, maybe. But even Vitali was visibly stunned from Sanders's quick straight left hand. Wlad just couldn't get out of the way of it, he was hit with it repeatedly.
Sanders was 38 and in worse shape when he fought Vitaly who was rocked but Sanders didn't have the stamina to fight him that night.
Vitali just had certain intangibles. You can tell watching them both fight, that he has a "big brother" mentality. He looks like a guy who beat people up even when he was a kid, while Wlad looks like a guy who was beat up as a kid and refined his craft. Although I think both were actually superb athletes as kids.
Vitali just has a different mentality ... not sure which fight it was but when he knocked somebody out he even waved them to get up. You would never see Wlad such a thing .. who is a very skilled fighter but isn't in there to really hurt somebody but to win his fight. Vitali seems to actually enjoy being in the ring.
He would have still lost to Purrity and Brewster because he was just gassed completely. He probally would have beaten Sanders because it was his chin that failed him on that one.
Wlad physical attributes are ATG worthy, but his mental strength/toughness is very poor to say the least. Anytime he gets hit solid it seems, he either holds or goes into a panic attack and falls numerous times, certainly not the mark of a great heavyweight. I have always believed the great ones excel under pressure and somehow find a way to win in the end, and finish strong, other than the Peter fight, Wlad has melted like icecream cone when anytime it got tough, even against Peter he looked like a scared little boy in there, not beast as many liked to portray him as.
I thought everyone claimed Vlad had a glass chin? I am surprised that all I read is that two of his losses are stanima, and only once his chin failed. All I use to read about here was his weak chin.
I think it goes without saying been down 11 times, most of which are against Journeymen, been TKO'd 3 times by less than stellar competition. His chin is still very weak, it's just too bad not many fighters now adays can get through Wlads punches and clinches to crack it.
Very true, in fact Wlad didn't even spar any southpaws leading up to the Sanders fight. He took him lightly & paid the price.
