Wladimir Klitschko (yes that's how it's spelt) has an underrated left hook, and amazing one at that.

It ain't the best, though. Frazier and Morrison have the best. Louis and Tyson at #3&4

 

Razor's uppercut/hook was a pretty good weapon in his days!

 

So much so it took over his game, and made him one dimensional.

I quite firmly believe that Holyfield can produce collosal power when he lands one of his counter left hooks.

The guy dropped to rocked Foreman, Mercer and Bowe. That's a line of iron chins.

 

Ugh!! Yes... I hate it when good boxers become essentially head hunters, in love with their power. Just takes away any potential growth as a boxer.

 

Thing is, it literally took him from a cute out-boxer to hooking plodder! It's literally took all of his strengths away.

 

Yep! I was a big Rudduck fan back then. I remember his loss to Lewis at the time was quite the shocker to most. LL really had to fight to get respect and acceptance in the US.

 

I think it's very hard to compare left hooks of bigger and smaller heavyweights, because they need different technique to deliver them. So I rank left-hookers by category:

Short guys (up to 6'1''): Fraizer, Tyson, Tua, Bert Cooper

Mid-sized (over 6'1'' and up to 6'4''): Louis, Morrison, Brewster, Henry Cooper, Povetkin and definitely Holyfield. Evander's left hook was a thing of beauty - he dropped Tyson, Bowe and Mercer with it and his KO of McDounagh was amazing).

Big guys (over 6'4''): Wlad, Cooney, Bowe

Some of the guys don't have great eye-pleasing technique in their left hooks but can hit like f*cking mules with those punches - Samuel Peter, Dillian Whyte

Others had hybryd punches - half-hook/half-uppercut (Ruddock, Ibeabuchi)

 

I'm so glad it's not just me who thinks so.

I think he hits harder than Marciano and Dempsey, which doesn't go down well in classic.

 

Wlad had about 70 pro fights. I remember two left-hook knockouts - against Pulev and Chambers.

Maybe there were more.

Didn't seem to be the punch he was known for.
