I voted Joe based on previous form, but im really 50/50 right now. Chad showed some improvements today defensively and caught a tossload of punches on his gloves, Calzaghe's wild volume punching would be easy to pickup on the gloves consistently but judging would play a big part.

Chad takes time off here and there and he would have to change that if he wants to beat a high workrate fighter like Calzaghe. Right now i'd suspect Dawson probably wouldn't stick to a plan well enough to beat a smart high work rate fighter like Joe but i suspect after the Jones fight i might have a changed opinion.

If Calzaghe really wanted to make a legend he woud take this fight after Jones. Never happens though.

well if the pressure of glen johnson almost gave him the w, calzaghe's style might be even more difficult for dawson.

Calzaghe by UD but it won't happen.

Should Calzaghe and Pavlik both win then that fight makes much more sense for his retirement bout.

Joe may be 37 but he is officially the champ at 168 and not only that but undefeated.

The criticism of him fighting Roy and Hopkis is because they are no longer the best, especially Roy. Roy hasnt been the man to beat at 175 since Tarver II which was years ago.

So anyone taking on Calzaghe shoudnt be critizied, Calzaghe is the legit 168 champ. The roy fight is an easy fight for Calzaghe. People are acting like Roy has a chance. Roy is shot as ****. Johnson had too much pressure for Roy years ago. Roy hasnt beaten anyone good since Tarver I. A washed up 168 lb retired trinidad is nothing to brag about. Roy really doesnt have a chance in hell against Calzaghe. It is only being made for the name and money.

I don't think Chad can KO him, for that reason i see Joe outworking him and looking flashier to win over the judges and take a comfortable UD

is Dawson better than Hopkins? maybe not. Don't forget the shellacking Hopkins gave Tarver a while back.

I'm saying this because you said the 2 best LHW, but i don't think Dawson is clearly established as the #2 LHW

If Clinton Woods didnt freeze against Tarver he would have exposed him as past it and the Dawson Tarver fight would never have happened.
Hopkins was a tougher fight choice than Tarver imo.

I have to laugh at 'bad' Chad Dawson may be giving Tarver a rematch? How will that **** sit with folks? He will rematch a guy he comfortably beat and should have tried to stop in Tarver yet wont give Glen Johnson a rematch? He truly is bad.

Calzaghe is getting old, I think he retires after roy. I would still have him beating Dawson in a fight in 6months time but as time moves on Calzaghe's chance will get less.

Predictably excellent reasoning from the genius that is 'TheChamp1000' - had Clinton Woods fought a completely different and far better fight against Antonio Tarver, he would have won. Well, thanks for that insight, that really is brilliant. Once again you have proved you have a keen mind for boxing. Thank you for always giving my threads a touch of your non-biased wisdom, I really appreciate it. Don't ever stop baby.

Are you sure? You do realize that the choice is between Dawson and your Joe, right??

That's because I'm not sure. I'm still not certain whether Joe looked **** in the Hopkins fight because he himself had declined since the Kessler fight, or whether Hopkins's defence was simply so good that it rendered Calzaghe impotent.

If Calzaghe is still the man of the Lacy and Kessler fight, then I think it would be a very close fight.

If Calzaghe is now the feather-fisted one-dimensional semi-skilled hard-worker we saw in the Hopkins fight, then I think Dawson's natural strength and handspeed would propel him to a clear points win.

Dawson doesn't have the power to hurt Calzaghe. Calzaghe hurt a lot of people, even with his brittle hands. He would hurt Dawson too at some stage. Once Calzaghe has them hurt, he's all over them, flurrying. I think Calzaghe would stop Dawson, because Dawson takes a while to recover once he's hurt.
