He hasn't declined but he just didn't show up that night. It was a mental thing. He admitted himself as much. Hopkins also really stretched him. Dawson isn't Hopkins, though.

Yep, and I for one do not think Dawson is perfect but you have to give the guy his due...he's good and I mean damn good and has the style to give JC a nightmare.

Furthermore, JC has slipped physically and I think he realises it too hence the change of heart in regards to Pavlik and Jones....he had insisted in the lead up to Hopkins that he wanted to fight the former and didn't really mention the latter...

Good post. I even think a physical decline is evident from the Lacy win to the Kessler win....though the latter is more impressive simply because Kessler is the superior fighter to Lacy.

In the USA, I'd make it a 50/50 fight. Calzaghe has greater stamina, whereas Dawson has a reach and power advantage. I doubt the fight would result in a stoppage.

The question is whether Dawson could manage range. If he could earn Calzaghe's respect with his speed and power, then he could thwart Joe's offense and take advantage of Calzaghe -- who never has employed textbook defense -- on the way in.

In Europe, I'd make Calzaghe a 60/40 favorite.

Calzaghe by a long mile, Dawson looked impressive last night but should have lost the fight before, Calzaghe has looked more impressive for a decade and has never lost a fight.

Calzaghe is slipping, and he isn't a natural LHW. I understand what you're saying, but I suspect this would be a much more competitive fight than you're saying.

    For **** sake :-(

Turns out I was right, it doesnt matter what Calzaghe does, there will always be someone that he is `scared` to fight or is `ducking.`

This BS has to stop, seriously.

Anyway... I pick Calzaghe on pts over Dawson - I was impressed with Dawson vs Tarver but I noticed how he took his foot off the gas in certain rds when he really should have been stepping it up vs an obviously tired Tarver.
Against JC this `breather` would be punished by punches in bunches.

    :thumbsup

I was impressed with Dawson, but no way does he beat Calzaghe. Let's face it, Tarver has always been utter shite and my fellow Brit, Woods, was a disgrace in their fight, making even Tarver look reasonable. What you need to remember is that Calzaghe has found a way to win against better fighters than both Dawson and Tarver, and hasn't lost since he was about 15, and he doesn't lose this one either. NB Fight won't happen anyway!!

Why would the fight take place in 'Europe'. It'd either be in the USA or UK. I can assure you this fight would not happen in germany,France,Italy,Poland etc etc
