Voted for JMM. BHop beat Wright at LHW, 3 weight divisions away from his best weight. Its pretty close though but surely if anyones age is gonna catch up soon it would be BHop first who is the much older fighter.
BHop beat Winky who was 3 weight divisions above his natural weight...but why does noone mention that Bernard himself was 2 weight divisions above his????
yes i mean as much as BHOP was a big middleweight, Winky was a big LMW. So in reality they are only 1 division apart, and since Winky was top10 p4p, that is still a really good win for Hopkins who won easily IMO (i know alot of people feel that Hopkins struggled, but to a Hopkins fans that is a typical clear cut Hopkins win)
Marquez by a mile. I love how Bernard beats a fat, unmotivated Tarver and a fat Winky and all of a sudden his two losses to Taylor are forgiven.
Mr. Legend Killer was unmotivated before the fight? please explain. He looked motivated in the pre-fight interviews
Hopkins could have made 154 during his middleweight reign as well. I doubt Winky could have made 147. But Hopkins has the more naturally gifted "frame" if you want to call it. He is able to move up in weight and not lose much, in fact gain some. Winky has no business above 160.
i found it close and when they went into the fight it wasnt like they were only a weight division apart because hopkins had moved up in weight properly wheras winky came in like all he did was eat 15 pounds of doughnuts to make the weight
Oh come on man, I love how you ignore the part of my post that pointed out he lost twice to Taylor and was chased out of HIS division, and attack the subjective part.
because if your post deserved a serious answer you would have left out the subjective part, and i wouldve given it one the fact is that even though I scored both fights for Taylor I thought that Hopkins proved to be a better fighter in both, especially the first one. Hopkins won his rounds handily and really layed the pipe on Taylor while Taylor won his rounds by a hair. Now I give credit to Taylor for forcing Hopkins to be cautious and I do rate Hopkins slightly lower for those losses but rather than just looking at a W or L on boxrec i look at the fight itself and put the outcome in its right perspective. Hopkins was faced with a young, very fast, and strong fighter who wasn't making many mistakes and who fights on instinct. Basically the worst possible style matchup for Hopkins. And then he moves up 2 divisions and lays a godly whooping on the champ at LHW. And then he beats WW in a 50/50 fight (according to Vegas) after Wright fought a draw against Taylor. if you look at JMM's recent notable fights, a close loss to Chris John where JMM was technically surpassed. a close win over a past prime MAB, in a fight where MAB really landed many flush shots, even though JMM was clearly better. a dominating win over Juarez, who was cut in round 1 and never stopped bleeding. do you really think JMM could beat Juarez so convincingly without the cut? I doubt it. WW was also cut but his corner managed to stop the bleeding
After he lost to Taylor his fans were saying how he was washed up and should retire. He leaves middleweight. Comes back and beats Tarver. Now those same fans are saying hes top P4P again?????? What happened, is it not the same guy? You should be bashing Tarver for losing to a guy who was washed up and on his way out, not redefining Hopkins.
Ok, here's a new post then guy. Hopkins lost to Taylor......twice! Whether you scored it for him or not, thats what happened. Hopkins couldn't do enough to clearly win and he had two tries....why? Pavlik destroyed Taylor :deal And if Taylor fought Hopkins again this year, the same thing would happen. :good
He said LONG before the first Taylor fight that with his age he was unable to really make MW comfortably anymore and that he was moving up. Only stayed one more because he lost (VERY arguably BTW) to Taylor the first time. He wasnt chased out of anything. Post facts please and leave your bias out of it. On top of that, if Winky was 2 weight classes above his natural weight, then what was Bernard? Remember, Hopkins was a natural MW...call me crazy, but I dont think LHW is his prime weight as well. As for the Tarver thing. Tarver was the recognized LHW champ....the man at his weight. Regardless of how he came into the fight, he was what he was. Taking it on hindsight is all well and good, but do you realize how many great wins you would have to take away from great fighters if you do it that way? Hearns was never "great" above WW....yet Hagler beat him and its a great win...Calzaghe beat an old, past it Eubank....but it was still a great win. Hindsight is all well and good, but is blind when assessing the greatness of a win. On top of that, Hopkins spent his entire career (please dont bring up that he fought a few times at the beginning of his career at LHW...he went to MW, because as he has said, LHW was all wrong for him at the time...) at MW...jumped 2 weight classes...was 40+ years old...and DOMINATED the universally recognized "MAN" at that division. If that aint a great win...we need to re-evaluate what we consider great. Your posts on this are ripe with inaccuracies, are based on bias opinion rather than facts and show a clear agenda. Do some homework bro...your normally a much better poster than that (a poster I actually consider one of the better ones on here actually). :good
