Depends on how Mayweather looks vs Guerrero but I think it'd be close as I think Mayweather's legs aren't what they used to be, Canelo is improving and is naturally bigger and seems to have decent all-round skills and power. Mayweather very possibly would be too evasive, experienced and accurate for Alvarez but a good bit depends how Mayweather ages.

I was saying as far back as this time last year Alvarez would beat Mayweather if they fought late in 2013 or early 2014. The clock is ticking against him, Alvarez is only going to get better, and Floyd is only going to continue to decline.

I've also said for awhile that Canelo is more of a counterpuncher/brawler hybrid type than a straight pressure fighter, and the Trout fight showed more of that. He's a big, strong kid too, and can box well from the outside. He's proving himself to be pretty versatile as well, but he could still improve his infighting and pressuring, not to mention his stamina and transitions (a lot of times, he was clowning Trout and dodging all of his shots, but not throwing hurtful counters while he was doing it; if he does that, he becomes even more of a handful.)

People always talk about Canelo's suspect gas tank, but Mayweather is not the guy stylistically to exploit that. A guy like Trout, a volume puncher who moves a lot, has a better chance of doing that, not a semi-stationary potshotter like the current Floyd. He fights at a more deliberate pace that plays to what Ginger does. If Floyd tried to fight at a higher pace, not only would he open himself up more, but his usual reserve of energy for the late rounds might not be there. Again, I was saying this last year.

I'll say it again though; if Floyd wants his biggest available payday left (and wants to win it), he'll try and fight Alvarez in September. If he waits any longer than that, the steadily-improving, evolving Canelo will become too much for him.

If he were to take this an win he would climb the ranks drastically , especially if canelo goes on to have a great career an i think canelo will. Just the size is gonna be too much, floyds not that mobile anymore.

    Cotto (circa 07/08)
    Williams

Canelo. 3-4 years ago, Floyd would make him look silly in the ring. I just can't see Floyd fighting off his back foot for 12 rounds effectively anymore. Canelo isn't a special fighter. He has good skills, good punching power, decent defense, good timing, and above average ring IQ, but he has stamina issues and looks very one-dimensional at times. Floyd can't beat father time and turn back the clock. He's too stationary and lay against the ropes 90% of each rounds as of late and that would be his downfall against a 170-pounder on fight night.

This fight would look like Mayweather-Mosley, with Canelo trying to counter, but being to afraid to let his hands go.

Unlike Trout, Mayweather will volunteer himself against the ropes. Canelo would chop him down and stop him.

    This fight will never happen.

Mayweather can still beat certain fighters. The networks won't sacrafice Mayweather yet. They still have him for 6 fights. I'd say he's good for 4 or 5.

You put Mayweather in with Garcia next and then some other non threat or you throw him in with Canelo, and finally make the Pac fight.

Canelo will stop him and then Pacquaio will give him the beating of a lifetime with years of rage he has stored up from Mayweather refusing to fight him.

This. I hate when he does it even though he's really good at fighting off the ropes. It won't work against every fighter and sooner or later someone will catch him and take him out. JMM, Oscar, Cotto have already shown that all it takes is patient and the ability to set up a good punch upstairs without getting too reckless in the process. Canelo has good enough timing to do just that and punches hard enough to take out the smaller, Floyd Mayweather.

Canelo had a hard time landing on Trout. Luckily for him, Trout didnt throw any counters with the punches that Canelo missed. Floyd would make sure that he would counter a Canelo miss most of the time. Plus, Floyd hits harder than Trout.
