I belive Pavlik vs Jones is the better fight. I also belive that Calzaghe fans and regional supporters of Joe prefer Jones.
I've followed Calzaghe since before he even won the British title and I want him to take the Pavlik fight to secure his legacy. Apart from the $$$ I don't see what beating an over the hill Roy Jones will do for him because he won't get any credit from the haters anyway. If he wins then he'd have beat an old man and if he loses then he was always overrated. If the Pavlik fight can generate close to what the Jones fight can (which I'm sure it could) then it has to be Calzaghe v Pavlik for me.
I dont see how JC beating Pavlik enhances his record significantly. Pavlik's only achievement is beating the amazing J.Taylor twice! Wowwww lets put Pavlik in the HOF he can retire right now after that achievement.
I want to see RJJ do what BHOP could not and that is KO Calzaghe. Pavlik needs to concentrate on dominating the middleweigt division.
Beating the undefeated young and dangerous WBC, WBO and Ring Belt Middleweight champion would definitely be a greater acheivement than beating a past it Roy Jones at this point no doubt. Seeing as these 2 fights are the only ones for Joe to take realistically then like I said it has to be Pavlik really.
Pavlik is P4P for beating only J.Taylor? Oh my God is it that easy to get in to the P4P top ten? If Lacy beats Taylor by KTFO will he be in the top ten P4P?
Originally I would've picked Jones... I mean in his last 2 fights Joe fought a very tough young, strong, undefeated world champion in Kessler and a old and experienced fox in Hopkins. You could make the same argument why should he fight another young guy or another legend if he's just defeated one... but money-wise, Calzaghe, who never became boxing's superstar (not because of fight style or protected but a week division and being a Welsh) means he deserves a big payday, and Calzaghe-Jones sounds FANTASTIC! What a superfight! You can't deny that Jones has something left in him. And still, these days I's preder Pavlik, boxing new "good guy outside of the ring and bad guy inside the ring". So Money/Fame/Legend or Young/P4P-er/The Ring champion? It's a tough call... let me see both! But Pavlik first!
