all bias aside how can Calzaghe not be on this list? And Trinidad be on it?

 

Trinidad is rated higher by most....but neither should be on the list

 

I think there's clear daylight between Whitaker/Jones and the rest of the field.

I think you could argue that Pac, PBF, Hops, Chavez, Holyfield all have good shouts for the 3rd spot.

I feel Trinidad, Calzaghe, Mosley are in their own little tier just slightly below these along with Morales, Barrera etc...

 

Whitaker, Pac, RJJ - In that order.

 

Pac is becoming way overrated he has more votes that WHitaker for crying out loud. Whitaker should be #1 on that list hands down and anyone who doesn't agree doesn't know boxing:deal

after these two then someone else but these two are clearly top in pure H2H and accomplishments. They're both H2H terrors and stylistic nightmares and would dominate in any era:deal

 

I disagree with this but I can see that as totally reasonable. Of course, I see many reasons why the 2nd tier fighters you have could be above RJJ though.

 

As good as RJJ ever looked, he was with a weight drained Toney(people use this for Oscar) and a very green Hopkins. He struggled greatly with tarver even before he went up to HW.

 

Erm, I don't think that. I wrote by a mile because I believe he was a mile ahead of anyone else. Watch these fights: Chavez, Nelson, McGirt I and II, Ramirez II, Haugen. At his peak, the guy wiped out and embarrassed the top comp of his (strong) era. His resume, achievements and skills mean he is a clear way ahead of Jones in first place.

I wouldn't argue with you over having Chavez ahead of Pac, there is probably a better argument for having JCC ahead, I just feel that Pac's best wins are comparable, but his feats of weight-jumping are clearly better. If Pac isn't ahead now, he will be by the time he retires.

Sorry, but in no way can having Chavez equal with Sweet Pea be justified IMO, absolutely not.

The difference being is that Toney was still prime ranked #2 P4P and he gave him a boxing lesson while Oscar was drained and shot.:deal I could say Pac was koed and lost to EM in his prime who isn't rated higher than Hopkins. Simply put RJJ was more dominate and god with gloves in his prime who rarely got hit could land and KO almost at will who toyed with people in the ring. PAc was never on that level.

Compare Calzaghe's resume to the resumes of Barrera and Morales. Absolutely no way in hell does Joe belong in the tier of two men who went to war with the best comp in 3 divisions over the best part of a decade.

You could say Pac lost to EM but lets not forget the other issues around that fight too, first fight at the weight class, gloves & headbutt cut. Sure it was a great win but clearly Pac wasnt on his best night. At the time Morales beat EM, EM was rated higher than Hopkins at the time RJJ beat him. OK Toney was p4p #2, well MAB was p4p #3 and prime too and Pac destroyed him...that's of an equivalent win if not better.

MAB had a head injury and had brain surgery before that fight. Which contributed to how bad he looked nevertheless it was still a great win. Regardless of where he was ranked EM still is the lesser fighter Hopkins is simply superior. I won't even go into people who have Pac ranked ahead of Pea that's just ridiculous. I see Pea shutting Pac out.

 

I own all of those Pea fights, absolute masterclasses, which is why I have him 1 or 2.

Chavez was ranked p4p no1 when both he & Pea were at their physical peaks & I really think its a toss-up at 135, their best weight.

Chavez was further past his prime than Pea when they fought, thats not up for debate. Its definitely arguable.
