If there was a lifetime achievement award (I didn't see it...) that would have been more suitable. But w/e, I don't think you can really begrudge Giggs an award against Jensen ****ing Button and David Haye who have done **** all in the grand scheme of things. Button won one championship with a stacked deck and Haye won a paper title in a boringish fight.

Seve Ballestoras (sp) got the lifetime achievement award.

Giggs winning it just proves how many gloryhunting United fans there are around the country ;)

It's an award for 2009. Giggs is the one who's done **** all compared to those two. Even Khan would of been more deserving than Giggs. It was a frankly embarassing choice.

No problem with Haye not winning it but the rest of that post just reads like a Man U supporter trying to justify a bad decision.

A "decent" (your words) season gets Giggs the award? :patsch

Well said Gaz, all Man U fans are trying to justify this. It's all a load of bollocks, same with the PFA award he won.

PFA - Voted by the players
SPOTY - Voted by the public.

The people / professionals voted for each of the awards, not a panel of judges so he must have done something right this year.

Most footballers are ******s who are just as influenced by the media as all the other mugs are. He has done something right, he had a decent season and has been good this season.

That shouldnt make him the best sportsman in the UK though.

Footballers get enough Kudos, publicity and cash. SPOTY should be about the other sports which never get a look in. If a footballer has done something exceptional, such as score the winning goal in the World Cup then fair enough. WTF has giggs done this last year.

Giggs seems a decent bloke and has had one hell of a career but, lets be honest, he didn't "deserve" either award.

Lets not kid ourselves why certain people are trying to justify the pick eh???

Won his 11th league title making him the most successful british footballer ever, broke the United appearence record, has now scored in every premiership season, pfa player of the year etc etc.

    Hardly **** all, is it?
