There Are Alot Of Ways You Can Look @ Jermain Taylors Career... Vote On What You Think His Career Was
I don't even know how to vote for this.... its interesting looking back on it because we might have gotten carried away early with jermain taylor or maybe pavlik ruined him or maybe he just can't fight pressure fighters or maybe he is only a b- level fighter... i really dont know
I personally think his wins over hopkins were overrated. If they were 15 rounders like the good ol days then he would of been koed both times by hopkins. I think hopkins gave him way too much respect in both fights. For what reasons I don't know. Taylor was lucky to get the nod over both Winky & Spinks, seem to struggle with Ouma & came unstuck against Pavlik twice & then floored by Froch & Abraham. I think you have to say he certainly didn't back down from anyone but since he won the belts he never really shined in any defense. Definately faded in every fight & never had a career defining fight in which he was totally in control & show cased his skills & class as the champion. I can only see him defeating Dirrell if they fought in the super 6 series.
I rooted for Pavlik at the time, but looking back now, I wish JT would've been able to finish him off. He looked really sharp that night and then it all fell apart and he was forever damaged.
A great fighter who is past his prime, Great personality too, I think he shud just hang 'em up and be a commentator. U never know, if Tarver is good at it, Jermaine might be too lol
A fighter with tremendous physical tools whose low in-ring boxing IQ prevented him from maximizing his potential.
he and cotto are the most sucessful olympians from the 2000 class. i mean there's rocky juerez who couldn't get a title after four tries, audley harrison who just turned out to be a big joke, jeff lacy who was finished the night calzaghe fought him. am i forgetting anymore olympians who were good professionals or bust from the 2000 class? but jt and cotto clearly were the sucessful ones. they worked hard, made the most of their talent, and deserve what they got. now it's time for both to retire, with their health still intact, and enjoy the fruits of their labor. i mean jt was an everlast model before he even headlined fights. i've read that they invested wisely and made some nice money outside of boxing, and in the ring. taylor and cotto should do some managing, promoting, community work, trainining kids. they both seem like fine human beings and it would be sad if something bad happened to them.
i think the "great fighter who cant fight pressure fighters" should be changed to "a very good fighter who had stamina issues" **** he would gas even if he wasent under pressure. he was very well rounded but his fault was exploited more publicly then other fights faults have been.
The wins over Hopkins were his high-point,,, (even though I thought he lost the 1st fight) After that, the world was his oyster,,, but it all kinda went downhill from there. Funny,,, it's alot like Pavlik's career now.
Tarver is an articulate person. Taylor stutters too much, and talks too ******ed to be a commentator.
I think alot of yall should re-evaluate what a "great" fighter is. Anyone who considers JT "great" is a class A ****.
