imo yes he did. I think Hopkins has the perfect style to defeat a prime Calzaghe and in his prime has the ability to do it convincingly.
definately...joe has quite a lot of techincal flaws as present in this fight that a prime hopkins would have taken advantage of (i thought hopkins won anyway in his prime i think convincing UD)
Definately not. He fought negatively in the fight and would have done so in his prime, whenever you want to make that. Joe Calzaghe outworks him any time.
No doubt a prime Hopkins would beat a prime Calzhaghe, not just because Hopkins won the early but mainly that he made Joe look like an amatuer in those very early rounds.
No. It didn't prove anything, other than 36 yr old Calzaghe beats 43 year old Hopkins. Thats it. They weren't the same fighters.
pugilist i implore you to go watch some earlier prime b-hop he wasnt always this negative (if you want to call it that) he adapted his fight game in order to increase his longevity. Watch hopkins of the echols or johnson fights and you'll see he could do a bit of everything and fought nothing like what he does today. maybe you should also research into some of the scorecards for the fight a lot of the media had hopkins winning and it was a SD meaning a case could be made for both fighters winning
The ONLY valid answer. If you think prime Hops beats him, fine. But that display sure as hell ain't the proof. Shame BHop pulled out of a deal to fight 6 years ago.
Was it a case of losing steam in the end for Hopkins, that's why he was outworked by Calzaghe? If that is the case, then you can very well say age is indeed a factor, and prime for prime, Hopkins wouldn have taken this one. If not, if Calzaghe just beat and outboxed him, then he would have done it, prime or not prime.
It doesnt really matter who anyone thinks would have won in their primes because it cant be proved but I thought Hopkins was extremely negative in the actual fight & just didnt do enough, he gave up a decent lead because he couldnt match JCs pace in the mid to late rds. Joe had better pace & stamina in his prime than he does now & Hop wasnt quite as good defensively in his prime as he is now.... I think Joe does best & looks more dominant vs attacking fighters & while Hop even in his prime was never an all out attack kind of fighter I still think that Hop attacks enough to bring out the best in Calzaghe. I see Joe getting the better of the offensive exchanges aswell as being a good enough technical boxer himself to not get totally outboxed if & when hop starts counterpunching on the back foot. Primes - Calzaghe UD Hopkins
A more agressive Hopkins would just have got tagged more. Calzaghe is just too busy for him,it`s a no brainer.
