I certainly won't say that Hopkins beat a prime Calzaghe. Could happen but I'd lean toward Calz.

Answer these questions please

    1) Who was more further away from their 'Prime', on the day of the fight, was it Hopkins (43) or Calzaghe (36)?

    2) Given that Calzaghe beat Hopkins on one of the smalllest of margins (SD), and Hopkins was more further away from his Prime than calzaghe was, why the **** do you think that slappy would be able to still get a victory over a younger, Hopkins?

    3) And how do you think SlapZaghe will win over a Prime Hopkins?
    a) Calzaghe by KO
    b) Calzaghe by UD
    c) Calzaghe by SD
    d) Calzaghe by MD

Badly for Hopkins. Almost certainly a UD for The Ghost. There's a very real chance The Executioner could be sparked out or quit on his stool. I actually wonder about the state of his health -- maybe "worry" is a slight exaggeration given that the guy's gonna be paid more money than I earn in the next 3 years :barf

For Q3: (a) and (b) are a joke. The only one of those scenarios I can possibly envision prime-for-prime is (c). And when I say "envision", I mean in the smallest recesses of my imagination, where wondrous stories of ghouls and goblins are dreamt up. ;)

    Thank you

So if Calzaghe cannot do (a) or (b) to an old Hopkins

and a Younger Hopkins will cetainly done better, meaning he would do better than losing to a SD which means he will either lose by MD, or he will win, then how can it be said, that a Prime Calzaghe beats a Prime Hopkins. 29+ ppl hu voted for calzaghe must be cracked or something

if hopkins goes on and beats pavlick will the anti - calzaghe brigade give him a bit more credit and not blame hopkins losing on him being "gassed"?:think

Calzaghe has a lot of encouragable fans. It has a tendency to blind them to his actual performance once he begins slapping.

Then there's just ppl who are clearly taking the **** for a laugh :yep :D

I for one would give immense credit first and foremost, to Hopkins. I would truly consider it a remarkeable achievement - up there with his very best tactical masterpieces (since that's the only chance in hell he'll have of winning this fight).

I would also be more impressed with Calslappy - to what degree would depend on how B-hops would beat Pavlik.

But this does not negate the fact that I would love to see Slappy Joe and the Pavster in the ring -- just to see how in the hell pitty-pattying would starch Kelly Pavlik like some on this and other forums are suggesting. :blood

Do you see how it comes across when you try and suggest that Cal would have beaten Hops by a LARGER margin then he did when Hops was 43, when Hops was in his prime? Or does it just go over your head?

That's nut-huggery, no matter how you try and put it across.

One more time: Hops was in his MID-FORTIES, and hadn't fought in nearly a year to boot.

Cal was still in his mid-thirties, coming off one of the biggest win of his career (whether or not he was prime, his win over Kessler was his biggest win)

Hopkins was good in his prime, but Joe Calzaghe also was better when he was younger. Calzaghe was even faster then, and he is really fast still. The only way Hopkins has a chance is for Calzaghe to come up to a weight that gives Hopkins his best chance. But, I see Calzaghe beating him everytime, and maybe even by knockout. Yes, I said it, even by knockout. Guys, Calzaghe was that good.
