It was a perfect stoppage Quillin was totally out of it. Harvey Dock saved him so he can fight another day. Just look at his eyes He didn't know if he was in Brooklyn or Beirut!! Good Officiating
Rumsfeld and CJ i need you guys to help me lead the coalition with all the athletic comissions that boxing gloves on fight night be increased to 48 oz and made of nerf, and fighters must wear sumo suits and headgear from now on.. so that we can ensure boxing remains humane and we are doing everything possible to protect fighters
Trust me. I have been banned for talking about the Top Rank stream from their website of the udercard.
I wouldn't say bad, just a tad early. From the replay I saw on youtube, it appeared the ref stepped in after a stumble, yes Quillin was hurt, and possibly out, but I didn't see the ref motion for Quillin to come forward. Would have liked to see him do that before stopping it.
Quillin took several clean shots and he still didn't go down. I think the ref shoulda given him a standing 8 count. Quillin did look done, but you do have to give the guy a chance, even tho it seemed Jacobs was going to finish Quillin off. Jacobs was just beating him to the punch.
It was a good stoppage but the ref handled it in a goofy manner. I think he anticipated Quillin going down from the last punch that Jacobs landed, so he was jumping in prepared to do a count but then Quillin stayed on his feet and he didn't know what to do and had a brain freeze for a second. But then he took a look at Quillin, who was in bad shape, and I think made the right call to stop the fight.
It's a bad stoppage in the sense the the ref didn't do a proper in there. Quillen touched the canvas and should have been given a standing 8. After Quillin steadied himself, the ref should have asked Quillin to walk towards him, grabbed his hands and seen how he responded. Instead he just turned around and stopped the fight cause he was jealous of Quillins excellent "Thriller" dance interpretation
I don't think he touched the canvas, but it did look like he might have held himself up with the ropes. It was hard to tell with the camera angle, but it looked like he might have put his hand on the rope to keep himself up which if true should have been called a KD. Will be interesting to see once replay is up.
I'm all for protecting boxers but surely, that one was a little premature. I'm fairly certain that Quillin was close to going down and possibly forfeiting the fight but frankly, I didn't see what exactly made the ref stop the fight at the point he did. In the end, it makes little difference I think because Quillin was not gonna win that fight but in the future I'd like to see fighters given the opportunity to recover.
