    PLEASE VOTE for your preferred system of scoring for the new ~ ESB's BIG FIGHT PICKS ~ Prediction League. Please read details carefully.:good

    Choices are:

    This content is protected

    wide/close specific correct UD pick = 30 points
    any correct decision pick = 25 points
    for just correct winner pick = 15 points

    exact round correct KO pick = 45 points
    1 round off correct KO pick = 40 points
    2-3 rounds off correct KO pick = 35 points
    any other correct KO pick = 30 points
    for just correct winner pick = 15 points

    a wide UD will mean any decision where all 3 judges score the fight for one fighter and 2 or more of the judges' scores are 116-112 or wider. If two of the judges score the bout 115-113 then it's a close UD. In the case of a SD/MD, then it's scored as close UD as well.

    With this system, the difference between picking the correct decision (wide or close) is only 5 points, so the judges' scores (which are rarely correct in boxing) don't play a major role in this league. With the specific score picks system (B) - below, there will be arguing going on when judges' scores are too wide or too close and it just complicates the league.

    Examples using Calzaghe-Kessler and Mormeck-Haye:

    Poster A picks Calzaghe wide UD, so he wins 30 points (since judges scored that bout 116-112, 116-112, 117-111)
    Poster B picks Calzaghe TKO9, so he wins 15 points.
    Poster C picks Calzaghe close UD, so he wins 25 points.

    Poster A picks Haye wide UD Mormeck, so he wins 15 points
    Poster B picks Haye TKO9 Mormeck, so he wins 35 points.
    Poster C picks Haye close UD Mormeck, so he wins 15 points.

    • correct winner = 5 points
    • correct winner + correct Decision or T/KO = 10 points
    Stoppage picks:
    • 3 rounds off correct round of stoppage, either up or down = 15 points
    • 2 rounds off correct round of stoppage, either up or down = 20 points
    • 1 round off correct round of stoppage, either up or down = 25 points
    • correct round of stoppage = 30 points
    Decision picks:

    e.g. Calzaghe UD by 4 points i.e. Calzaghe beats Kessler by 4 points (UD 116-112)
    • 3 points off correct number of points advantage for winner, up or down = 15 points
    • 2 points off correct number of points advantage for winner, up or down = 20 points
    • 1 point off correct number of points advantage for winner, up or down = 25 points
    • correct number of points advantage for winner = 30 points
    Draw = 30 points

    Advantages:
    • rewards accuracy more than A), C) and D);
    • doesn't favour stoppage picks over decision picks like A), C) and D);
    • 120-108 and 116-112 picks are scored differently, not both as "wide" like A), C) and D);
    • when actual result is 116-112, picking 116-113 gets you more points than picking 120-108, not fewer, as with A), C) and D).
    Disadvanages:
    • too much emphasis on accuracy as opposed to just picking a winner;
    • takes longer to count scores than the others, except H).

    Amsterdam's (old) system, used in his league, last year, without the "clean-sweep":

    Scoring:

    Wrong pick: 0 points

    The right fighter with the wrong result: 5 points

    The right fighter with the right result(ko or dec.): 10 points

    ..............................

    Extra points :

    For decision picks, type either 'close' or 'wide'.

    MD/SD automatically falls under close. 115-113,115-113,116-112 would be 'close'. 116-112,116-112,115-113 and WIDER falls under 'wide'.

    Correct decision result: 15 points.

    For stoppage picks -

    Coming within 3 rounds of the round where it was stopped: 15 points

    Within 1 round: 20 points.

    The correct round: 25 points.

    DRAW/NC/TD prediction that hits: 30 points

    Examples using Calzaghe-Kessler and Mormeck-Haye:

    Poster A picks Calzaghe wide UD, so he wins 15 points
    Poster B picks Calzaghe TKO9, so he wins 5 points.
    Poster C picks Calzaghe close UD, so he wins 10 points.

    Poster A picks Haye wide UD Mormeck, so he wins 5 points
    Poster B picks Haye TKO9 Mormeck, so he wins 15 points.
    Poster C picks Haye close UD Mormeck, so he wins 5 points.

    (Similar to system A); has the same problems as system A). and the same advantages over system B).)

    ===================================================================

    D)

    Amsterdam's method, as outlined in C) but including the "clean sweep". i.e. 20 points added to the weeks' total for picking all the winners correctly.

    Please NOTE: there will not always be the same number of fights each week. This week there are four. Next week there might be two or just one - we only pick BIG fights. Is it fair to add the "clean sweep" for predicting 2 fights as well as for predicting 4, say?

    BigBone's odds matching system:

    We should name an internet betting source to see the actual odds and use those odds as the indicator for extra points.

    Let's see some examples, Bwin's betting on:

    Hopkins-Calzaghe:
    Joe Calzaghe (WAL) 1.36
    X 23.00
    Bernard Hopkins (USA) 3.10

    Klitschko-Ibragimov:
    Wladimir Klitschko (UKR) 1.20
    X 27.00
    Sultan Ibragimov (RUS) 4.30

    Duddy-Smitchet:
    John Duddy (NIR) 1.05
    X 29.00
    Walid Smichet (TUN) 9.00

    Of corse there are odds for round pick, stoppage or not stoppage, we could use those too.

    That system is FAIR because it's safe to bet on a Malignaggi points or Klitschko KO win.

    So... let's say 10 points in default x BWIN odds:
    Picking the favorit Calzaghe: 10 x 1,36 = 13,6 points
    Picking underdog Hopkins: 10 x 3,10 = 31 points
    Picking Ibragimov: 10 x 4,30 = 43 points

    So in the end the very expert/very lucky guy who can pick the 50/50 and underdog fights as well would get the most points, and THAT's FAIR!

    Thanks, C Money!:good

    You like it this week because we have four fights...next week, when we have maybe just one, you might not like it so much. But I made a promise: "only big fights"...if we run more than the big fights, I'll get more comments like:

    "Decebal, I have never seen either Montiel or Castillo, so I cannot predict who's going to win...no point in me taking part in the league, sorry."

    or

    "Unfortunately, I can only take part in this league if you only select big fights because I don't have time to think about more than two, three big fights."

    So...I think it's better if we run only big fights and have more posters take part and have more critical thinking applied when picking in those than if we ran more fights with fewer posters with more guessing and less proper in-depth analysis taking place.

    And since we only run big fights, this league should not compete with kirk's or lbarrow's leagues either...you can take part in those and if you still fancy copy-pasting the big-fight picks you made there into this one, you can...and it won't take you more than 2 extra minutes to compete in this one as well.

    I like A but I also like the idea of a clean sweep bonus for weeks in which there are four or more fights. We should add this to A and go with that.

    It's unlikely there will be that many weeks with four or more fights...

    How many points would you suggest should be added for the "clean sweep"? 20?
