Exactly. Have you heard the latest? Haye offered Wlad to fight in Germany instead. :rofl Nice stalling tactic Herbie Haye. The only thing Haye brings to the table are a huge following in England. Most casual boxing fans in the USA don't even know who he is. Germany is probably the same. In other words, why would Wlad need Haye? He sells out in Germany regardless of who he's fighting.
I'm not trying to sound like an *******, but Wlad isn't exactly that well known in America either, and after his last showing here against Iggy, I dont think many will pay to see him fight again. I think he should remain fighting in Germany where people love the guy, and stay out of America where he's not much more known than Haye.
People saying that Wlad is ducking Haye are just hilarious. Haye hasn't done anything at Heavyweight that could possibly put a Champion in the position to duck him. A fighter has to be in your way in order to be ducked or sidestepped..... Haye isn't in the position to be ducked. Wlad offered the man a fight in his own backyard for god sakes. A voluntary defense at that, because Haye sure as hell isn't his #1 challenger. Wlad should step back and fight Arreola. I bet Chris would be much more eager to get a crack at the title. Wlad should then tell David Haye to fight Povetkin on the undercard, with the winner getting Wlad next. I bet Haye wouldn't want any part of that deal. For a couple reasons... Haye clearly doesn't have any intention earning his way to a heavyweight title shot by beating top heavyweight contenders in the ring. Second, Haye wouldn't get past Povetkin.:verysad Yet, in reality that would be the BEST scenario for all fighters involved. It puts 4 of the top heavyweight fighters in with each other, makes the showdown of the winners a much bigger fight worldwide... and Haye vs Povetkin would take care of the IBF mandatory situation. Arreola is the #2 by the IBF as well... so he wouldn't be overlooked.
I am not trying to sound like an ass hole, but you are talking out of yours. Wlad is WAY more well known in America than David Haye. What are you thinking? Do you know how many times Wlad has fought in the US? More than that... do you know how many of Wlad's fights have been televised in prime time slots in the United States? Wlad is VERY well known. Haye is only known by hardcore fans in the States who visit the internet frequently to read up on boxing news.
I'm not saying your idea is not good, but why would Povetkin do that when he already has a fight with Wlad locked up? Haye doesn't deserve a shot against Wlad, but neither did Austin or Rahman, who were pretty much easy fights for Wlad, at least Haye got people talking about the division again, which is a step in the right direction IMO.
Do you enjoy posting the same thing over and over again ? Yeh I'm sure Wlad would love to pay Arreola a couple hundred grand to come over to Germany. Instead of paying Haye what he's worth. It's pretty much recongnised that the only fight ppl want to see is Wlad v Haye Actually your right...... Manny should be fighting Magglinaggi first before he gets a shot at Hatton,.
But this has nothing to do with who is the most well known in the states. it has ZERO bearing on negotiations
He fights mostly in California, where he and is brother call a second home now. After the Iggy fight, I doubt anyone will want to pay to see him fight again here in America. I would bet a thousand dollars if I asked 10 guys at the bar whose the Heavyweight champ, most would answer with a UFC fighter or a retired Heavyweight like Lewis or Holyfield, I dont know where you live, but in Pittsburgh noone really knows who Wlad is, and if they do, they usually respond with "Is that, that big white guy who fights scared all the time?"
Wlad has never fought in California. What on earth are you talking about? He wants to fight Arreola in California which would be Wlad's first fight out there. Wlad usually fights in New York, New Jersey, or Las Vegas when in America. His last 3 fights in the United states were in New Jersey, New York, and New York again. I am out talking to casual boxing fans all of the time and I NEVER hear anyone harping on the Ibragimov fight. They all think that Wlad is a beast. I used to work in Pittsburgh and I am there all of the time as well. I only live 55 minutes outside of Pittsburgh myself... and they all seemed to know who Wlad was. Who the hell are you talking to in Pittsburgh? What you are talking about is a general lack of knowledge that the population has in general about boxing. Boxing doesn't have the right marketing or exposure in the states anymore for the most part.
I will say this much... If Haye can't do much against Wlad then no one can, same with Gomez against Vitali.
This is my understanding of what has happened. Booth brought the big venue (Chelsea stadium) to K2 as the major incentive for Wlad. Then everything was settled and K2 sent the deal back to Booth for their John Hancock to make it official. Booth then pulled out of the deal due to "economic concerns". Now all hell has broken out. I think both fighters want this fight but it's Booth's incompetence and inexperience that's screwing everything up. They had a contract if front of them (all terms agreed upon) and didn't sign it cause Booth couldn't deliver on his end. Now, they are trying to salvage a deal while working around tv dates, fighter contracts, etcc...I would like to see Golden Boy Promotions step in on Haye's behalf to get this deal done. I also find it hilarious how the British press reported the fight was taking place at the O2 arena when it was already booked :rofl
I dont know buddy, most of the people I talk to in bars, either dont watch boxing, and seem to go the UFC route or just dont pay attention much to the Heavyweight division. I'm not saying noone knows who Wlad is in the states, but he's certainly not as popular as you make him out to be. I just hope this Haye fight gets made, it would be a real treat to fight fans, and much needed exposure to an almost dead division. If Wlad fights Arreola aka poor mans Sam Peter, I will be very upset and may even miss my first Wlad fight in years and not buy HBO for that month.
