Thompson is underrated. Wlad will most likely win but Thompson earned his payday.

What a ordinary fight it should be in Europe. I was hoping it could happen in DC or at least in Miami Area, where Wlad reportedly owns a house.

Another hope would be for the Klitschkos to exchange their mandatories in Tony and Arreola. That way both fights would carry intrigue.

Mandatory defense but absolutely meaningless for Wladimir reputation: Tony was so slow getting off and was flattened so easily, I guess Klitschko can go for a Ray Austin and take him out of there early and that would impress more than that win against washed up French CWs like Mormeck ( with all due respect to his career since stopping Virgil Hill).

Yeah but vs Purritty young Wladimir almost won all rounds and gassed.
Vs Byrd Vitali hurt his shoulder ans Wlad got drugged in the first Brewster fight.

The big guys Sanders and Lewis did cleary better vs the Klitschkos

Two things to Thompsons credit here. One, he was injured prior to the first fight. Not seriously, but enough to hinder the power in his R hook, his best punch IMO. Second, who else in the division beats him? He's big, strong, takes a hella punch, and when healthy can deliver those Formanesque shots that appear slow, but in reality, are concussive KO type shots.

Now, a few detractors. Even injured, the 2 yrs younger Thompson was unable to defend well against Wlads jab cross combo. He essentially set himself up for some of those killer combos. As for payday, he should look for step aside money from Wlad than line himself to face the winner of Rahman/Potvetkin, taking a fight on Wlads undercard, and going out a winner.

I'd pick Thomspon to stop Potvetkin or Rahman fairly handily, and he could mow over a guy like Banks for a decent payday on Wlad's summer defense card.
Don't know what he's making against Wlad, but it prolly lower 6 figures. Maybe 300K. He could take 100K step aside $$, fight Banks for 50K instead (winning a minor title) then line himself up for Potvetkin 75K, earning him similar $$$ while maintaining his health, his winning ways, and gaining 2 minor titles in the process.:deal

Why the "7" for Tiger Tony?
Does it have any significance, or did he just pick that number? :think

edit: probably because the fight is on the 7th of the 7th :thumbsup
