Waging War - Marvin Hagler

Hagler didn't wage war with that many of those. He outboxed at least 3 or more.

 

So the question is really could anyone beat him?

 

Willie Monroe went to war with Hagler in 76 and beat the **** out of him.

 

I think it's fair to say that Hagler was at his best against aggressive fighters but a bit less against boxing type of fighters. Which is why i think Monzon would beat him in a close one.

 

Hagler was at his best against aggressive fighters when he was younger.

In my opinion the more aggressive he got, the harder he punched and the sooner he ended a fight.

 

For Example, he tried to feel out Caveman Lee but Caveman started throwing heavy leather. Hagler took a second to regroup and seconds later put Caveman on ***** street and ended the fight.

The Obel fight was similar. Hagler stayed on the outside and lost the first two rounds but once he made his way in turned the fight around. No one does this better than Hagler.

Ray Leonard on the other hand takes forever to turn a fight around and seems to flounder most of the time when forced to take the role of aggressor.

 

Ray Leonard 'struggled' to turn the fight around against Tommy Hearns. Pretty big difference to Caveman Lee and Obel. I like how Hagler managed to turn the fight around against Leonard, he came out and lost the first 4 rounds then went on to lose the decision, he adapted real well there.

 

Grandma would have been a chance of putting the good old Caveman on the mat.

Except when the guy in the opposite corner has lightening hand and foot speed and the initials S.R.L

So he simply schooled Duran II and Hagler by boxing superbly

Not to mention beat Hearns and Benitez while wearing his aggressor cossie

Pat, are you insinuating SRL DIDN'T struggle to turn the fight around against Hearns? The fact that it was a life and death struggle made it one of the great fights. And your thoughts on Hagler are just your opinion. Many astute boxing observers thought MMH turned that fight around just fine, including one of the judges.

 

No no he did struggle but the fact it was against Tommy Hearns should be taken into consideration. Much like people saying now that Ricky Hatton was exposed cause he lost to Mayweather the #1 fighter in the world. Its not really a bad thing considering the class of opponent. The only reason Hagler 'adapted' is because he went from doing nothing, to doing something. Quite a turn around.

 

I think people overlook the fact that the early Hagler outboxed most of his opponents..
