Jeez I mean I remember Foreman moving like a mummy the last few fights, in which he probably should of lost to Schulz and Savarese (but gotten the nod over Briggs) and couldn't KO Crawford Girmsley. Your adding about 7 years onto that body.....I don't know if new beating any ranked contenders at that point.

One of the things I always loved about Big George as a commentator is that he gave no ****s. Like ever. Whatever was on his mind, we got to hear it. I forgive him for getting excited and talking smack. For the record Vitali is one of the guys that I believe could maybe beat George H2H in the fantasy championships. Obviously in that moment Big George thought otherwise. I defer to his magnificence.

I say that Foreman should come back today at 74 and take Usyk/Fury/AJ/Wilder down a peg or 2.

If 1974 George Foreman could possibly beat that bunch then why not 74 year old Foreman?? Be logical now

I dunno, I see it differently.
He was certainly reduced by then, but while neither Grimsley or Savarese were world-beaters, they were 20-0 & 36-0, good enough to KO most everyone they fought until then.
Foreman was 48 when he fought Savarese, & Eye on the Ring has the averaged fan card giving him 6 rounds, 31% differing with the verdict, & coming on strong, winning the final 4 rounds.

I do not know that he did not deserve that fight, but being at that level at 48-& Briggs was 29-1-& did you know that in 67 career fights his KO% was over 88%? Foreman by consensus should have won, & this level of success in his late 40's is very impressive.

This may give No Neck a massive coronary, though hopefully not more than a bit of cardiac arrhythmias...
This assessment of the fight with a young contender shows a very impressive Old Man!

The fight was controversial as Briggs ultimately picked up the victory by way of majority decision. Through the course of the fight, Foreman landed more punches and had a higher percentage of his punches land than Briggs. Foreman landed 284 of his 488 punches for a 58% success rate while Briggs landed 45% of his punches, going 223 for 494. Foreman made $5 million, whilst Briggs received a $400,000 purse.

Foreman spent much of the fight as the aggressor while Briggs spent a lot of the fight retreating. In the later rounds Foreman's power punches seemed to take a toll on the younger Briggs, as he began slowing down and all but abandoned his tactic of moving away from Foreman and was hit from some heavy shots as a result. In the 12th and final round, Foreman tried hard for a knockout victory and was able to break Briggs' nose but was unable to score a knockdown. As a result, the result went to the judge's scorecards.[13][14]

One judge scored the fight a draw at 114–114, while the other two had the fight scored 116–112 and 117–113 in favor of Briggs, giving him both the majority decision win and the lineal heavyweight title.[15]

I think Larry Merchant best summed up this nonsense:

"I make George about a 7-5 favourite over Max Schmeling"

That’s the thing though, I can’t imagine what he saw in Vitali that could possibly lead him to believe that he could take him at 55 years old.

Now, the 40 year old Foreman that had the awesome war with Holyfield, I can understand that Foreman thinking he can take Vitali.

I remember hearing George Foreman was coming back for one more fight in London against Berbick since Berbick wasn't allowed in the US or Canada. Then the talks of Holmes started up again. (Holmes had done an exhibition against Ron McCarthy to get ready.)

George talked nonsense in the commentary box- "He broke his leg" being one of his all-time greats . Check out his work for Young-Lyle II- if ever a man was watching another fight, it was this one.

At the 23 minute mark Big George starts talking about how he wanted one more fight at 55 years old.

Did you know that Tua, now planning a comeback, has chosen the nickname "Hawk"? It can't be a coincidence.

If all he had left was a heavy jab then he’d probably beat Tua based on the Briggs fight. I don’t know how he’d look at 50 though.
