The only difficulty I think he has against him is that at his age his metabolism has slowed a bit, other than that its possible.

If he could somehow make it to 160, I wouldn't want to see him fight anyway. Getting that light would NOT be healthy for him and would only do harm.

Calzaghe CAN'T make 160 for christs sake. He weighs 190lb when he eats normally and trains less. It's not about saying 'hes X tall, therefore he can make this weight", people have different frames, bone structure and water retention

    Dear lord :patsch

Yeh and since Mike Tyson was only 5'10 he should have drained to fight at welter

Chris Byrd lost 36 pounds in 6 and a half months at the age of 37 just remember that.

At barely 6'0" or 5'11 1/2" he should have been able to get to 160 .. since he doesn't rely upon power even a temporary move (one-off) might have made for a couple more interesting fights instead of only fighting the multitude of bums he selected at 168 (and there were a good number of lousy fights by Hopkins as well - like when he fought the incomparably lousy Hakkar- that a Calzaghe fight (even at a catch-weight) would have been far more desirable and meaningful for boxing fans).

But, it takes uncommon commitment and dedication to get there ... RJJ, Hopkins could do it but apparently not Joe. At 160, he probably calculated (and maybe correctly) that his punch resistance would be affected and he would be so punchless that he would be at risk of being KO'd by an Anne Wolfe much less a man. As it is, he struggles to make 168 and the sacrifice (for him) is that he has zero upper body strength ... which is evidenced in his inability to punch his weight ... and if he had added some muscle he couldn't have made 168 for the past decade or so ... at 175 he would have had to face even bigger and stronger guys ... he's not Roy Jones afterall .. not even close .. way too tough an assignment (even the far superior Hopkins chose to cut weight rather than face 175 lbers for a career ... Hops is also not Roy).

If Roy had stayed at or returned to 168 Joe would have been between a career rock and a hard place .... Hopkins at 160, Jones at 168, zero chance at 175 .... there goes the so-called perfect record a long, long time ago. Fortunately, Roy couldn't allow himself to remain in a division where there was absolutely no physical challenge and moved up to where the comp was at least bigger/stronger. Thus, Joe was very fortunate and found his niche in the weak SMW division which had and has no distinction allowing Joe to become its kingpin by virtue of general apathy and disinterest.

Chris Byrd never fought at his natural weight, because he liked the dolla' on offer with the big boys

All I know, after having followed Calzaghe for years, is that he trains his ass off to get to 168. 10-12 weeks of punishment from Enzo, as well as really starving himself half to death

I don't think you realise how much weight another 8lbs is, and if you are serious about this I've lost some faith in your posts.

    If was the keyword

I thought I'd give insight anyway, because people don't realise how much Joe struggles getting down there, cos he looks like a skinny mofo at the weigh ins

Perfectly stated! :thumbsup If Joe C could conceivably make 160, I think we'd all know that by now.
