Some of y'all are saying that the WBC is the worst, but the WBA is takes the cake to me. I was looking up information of Gadhzimagomedov's next fight, and came across this... https://www.wbaboxing.com/boxing-news/wba-orders-gadzhimagomedov-la-cruz#:~:text=The World Boxing Association (WBA,in accordance with WBA regulations. On the same website, it says that Vartan Arutyunyan is the interim champion... wba-ranking I mean, I haven't got the words. They don't even know who their interim champion is? Many of you don't care about Bridger, and I respect that, but this is a matter of principle.
WBA have always been the worst, just the WBC love to give them a run for their money WBA love a crappy belt so for them to forget about the crapiness of Brigerweight says everything needed about that division
The WBA has always accustomed us to this kind of belt problem, the worst was the period of the 4 Cruiserweight WBA champions when Shumenov had the WBA Interim title, Goulamirian the WBA Gold title, Denis Lebedev the WBA Super Champion and Yuniel Dorticos the WBA Regular champion. More recently the WBC did something similar with the Middleweight : Champion : Jermall Charlo - Interim Champion : Carlos Adames - WBC Silver Champion : Hamzah Sheeraz - Interim Silver WBC Champion : Aaron McKenna
The source I shared about a month ago had him listed as an interim champ however it also listed that Arutyunyan was fighting a new opponent for the vacant interim belt which he was not so I think it was AI. La Cruz is the WBA Gold Champ which absent the regular title is the WBAs third most prestigious title equal to the WBCs Silver Belt. La Cruz is also the mandatory. Arutyunyan is the interim champ he beat the previous interim champ. La Cruz is not the interim champ. A lot of office work is being outsourced to AI and I feel like official sources are starting to make mistakes more. My gut tells me this is what happened here. A person didn't do that press release they ran it through chaptgpt.
I would like to point out that the WBA only has 9 guys ranked in that "division", not including the two title holders. To their credit, the WBC has found 31 guys to rank. https://wbcboxing.com/en/bridgerweight/
The WBA has only had a Bridgerweight division 2 years. They are really just getting started. While WBC has had Bridgerweight over 5 years. This division was the WBCs idea so it stands to reason they care more. The WBC President wants it to say "I founded a weight division" on his tombstone. For WBA its just another weight class they agreed to recognize.
