Wait until the Pacific Islanders start showing up in MMA. They could kick some ass.

I thought Ben Henderson was Samoan but after checking out his background I now know he's Korean/Black. Interesting.

I don't know..I guess it's possible we'll see an elite Pacific Islander wrecking machine someday. I don't necessarily think they have an advantage over every other race. They've always been good in sports in general but not great. I will say though, during my high school days, nobody messed with the Samoans. They were the toughest kids on campus.

I heard somewhere that Pacific Islanders actually have thicker skulls than anyone else. i can't remeber where I heard it but it was some kind of scientific scource and not just a bloke down the pub. I played rugby to quite a high level and there were a couple of those guys at the club at various stages and all of my experiences training and playing with them only reinforced this theory. Naturally tough people that rarely get injured and seem impervious to pain.

Samoans are some of the toughest biggest rugby players out there

And of course you got David Tua showing you how tought and hard hitting they can be in combat sports. Someone should set up a MMA gym out there, could make a killing

The UFC dispensed with this myth when the Gracies first started the UFC. Additionally there's a ton of Maori descent fighters in the K-1 and MMA.

Not sure about this. But a test was conducted on 'ol Iron Head' Fujita. And he was found to have an abnormally thick skull. He had a solid chin in his prime. Probably explains his huge bulbous head.

1000s of years ago, and even up to a few centuries ago I think, Samoan men used to settle disputes by bashing each other in the heads with clubs. Guys with weaker chins were KOd and killed. Natural selection and evolution saw to it that later generations had better chins so survive the disputes because only the guys with thicker skulls got to pass on their genes for thick skulls.

Today, Samoans no longer bash each other in the heads with clubs but their skulls are still physically capable of taking the impact. That's why Samoans in combat sports are hardly ever dropped and never KO'd (remember when Hunt took that Cro Cop high kick that would have KO'd anyone else and didn't even flinch?)- they're designed to take freaking clubs (stronger than baseball bats) to the head, let alone punches.

i found the above on another site. probably just a myth but sounds kind of truish.

Anyone saw the samoan video posted in the launge some time ago where at this school a kid stole some things and got punished by the class and the punishment was getting beaten to a bloody pulp by the fist of the big ass Madea looking samoan woman and the samoan kids in the school.
The "thief" took the beating of champions and still stood up and walked out from the class the same way he walked in.

BJ Penn and Mark Hunt are some examples of Pacific Islanders in MMA, with disparity in results.

They should have Overeem interrupt Jake's walk-in music with his own tunes. Then Jake the Muss would beat that ass for sure. Reem has done too many weights, not enough speed work.

That sounds like a load of rubbish mate. The human skull isn't designed to take repeated blows. Especially not from a club.
Granted Samoans tend to be of thick stocky builds but that's down to their genetics if you ask me. Nothing more or less.
