On how he felt the fight went? Ray Leonard sucked it up and said he felt Hearn's won their second fight, and that he deserved the decision. Other fighters have said similar things. Did Louis himself say something to that effect?
Walcott said later on that after the decision was announced Louis walked over to him...shook his hands..and said,"I'm sorry Joe!"....Louis knew he should have lost their fight in 1947...
Ali wasn't quite as generous towards Norton, altough he probably felt Norton won it (their third meeting). How Chavez kept face after getting a draw against Whitaker is beyond me, though. And Valuev should, in a perfect world, have handed his belt to Holyfield. But it's not easy to always be noble enough. I probably wouldn't have been under similar circumstances. Something I really like about Louis is how fast he gave rematches when there was any doubt. That's how it should be.
Louis said in his autobiography that he felt embarrassed by his performance that night, and that was why he left the ring before the announcement. He also said that he assumed Walcott lost the fight because he wasn't assertive enough. Despite the knockdowns, he ran a lot and rarely fought with Joe during the fight.
I thought the rounds I've seen were very hard to score too (other than the two with the knockdowns of course). I didn't see Walcott as clearly dominating them, like most other people do. PS, next time you put a picture of yourself in your avatar, make sure your hand isn't in the way. :nono
Quite correct ,Louis felt that as he "made the fight",he had won .He aplologised to Walcott because he thought it had been a stinker fight. Ironically Walcott traded more in the later rounds of the return fight and paid the price.
