Did Walcott really not beat the count? Was there fear that Walcott knew what he had to do the second time around and he could potentially be a threat to Marciano's title reign and record? Eh?
I've heard speculation over the count and if Walcott really did beat it or not. People feel differently over it. Similar to the Quarry/Chuvalo fight. Quarry was definitely aware of the count, but rose a split second too late in the refs mind.
Do you really think white america would of enjoyed losing Marciano as a champion? You were alive in the 50's, correct?
Were you alive in the1950s? Rocky fought many guys who didn't have white skin... seems to me he enjoyed challenges from black boxers while champion. I guess all these black fighters were overwhelmingly concerned about what "white" fans may have thought?
I was. I think you might be confused by the youtube film. If you notice, there is a slight gap between the film and the sound and the count is called out on the film a split second after the film count. Walcott appears to me to still be down at ten. I doubt if the promoters and the TV network that paid big money were thrilled with this quick ending.
What are you suggesting? Marciano's camp agreed beforehand with the referee to have him pretend to have counted Walcott out in such instance as Walcott narrowly beat the count after being floored? Conspiratorial much? But no, Walcott didn't beat the count.
Not my theroy. I've heard it thrown around, and I'm curious on it. I see I offended the sacred cow, though.
I see some have challenged a "sacred" stupidity In this case at least. Just a word of caution, just because one reads an opinion, don't conclude the opinion read as being fact.... Christ, did my son start posting on here?atsch
