Some observations-- 1) Hatton should fight again as soon as reasonably possible, say Oct/Nov. He was back to his old sharpness and I'm sure the shorter lay off was the key. 2) If the above isn't possible, he should limit his 'holiday time' to a maximum of four weeks, then get back in the gym to tick over, instead of gaining more and more weight as he did before the Colloazo and Urango fights 3) Never, ever fight another southpaw 4) Against Mayweather Hatton will have to accept the short end of the purse, against Cotto, purse parity.Against Mallignaggi,Hatton will get the higher percentage. 5) Mayweather is definately beatable by Hatton. Cotto would be far harder. 6) Try and make a Cotto fight at 143 1/2 so both have to 'give' a little. Such a mega-fight wouldn't need any titles 7) Try and get one fight of his new three fight deal scheduled in the UK
hey! you're smarter than i thought you were!!!!! anyways i dont think cotto could even make 143, he has trouble making 147, at the weigh ins he is always dead on 147, he said himself in an interview at his training camp that making 147 is easier than 140 but its still alot of work.
I agree strongly with your first point. Get him into the ring as soon as. Given that he only went four, September isn't to soon, and the Yanks would love it.
Yes, Witter If only to shut Witter and himself up, it will apt for a last fight in the UK. Then fight whoever he wants in Vegas/New york/Nassau
"Walking in a Hatton Wonderland" - can't the British fans get a better song than that? I like the "there's only one Ricky Hatton" one, though.
witter fight would be boreing, but witter deserves a shot, he has been waiting for ages and has won a title.
I think Hatton's people see that fight as a fall-back. If he loses stateside or to a big name over here, expect to see him fight Witter in Manchester for that title, if he decided not to pack it in..
so by avioding every southpaw how can he call himself one of the best fighters in the world. Dave i like the way you think sort of. i mean i like that you want to keep Hatton active because thats what his slobby ass needs. but i dont like that people want there favourite fighters protected. thats BS. i want every fighter out there to face the best they can not aviod the best. so if you want Hatton to aviod all southpaws that would mean no fight for Hatton with such guys like Zab Judah at 147 or 140 Sharmba Mitchell at 147 or 140 Paul Williams at 147 Cory Spinks at 147 David Diaz at 140 so your telling us that he needs to aviod all these fights.
i don't think it's necessarily the fight that is draining but the training and build up that takes it's toll on a fighter. e.g. hundreds of rounds of sparring and weeks of preparation. hatton needs a break and set up a big fight in december to motivate himself for.
He still has to do all of that preparation if the fight is in December. However, there may be trouble getting him to this rare peak again so soon. The less time he has of the better as far as turning in another performance on this level goes.
He should just fight the best at 140 and let things sort themselves out at 147 and try to make a fight with whoever comes out on top there at a catch weight. If he goes right up to 147 he going to have the same problems but this time against better fighters.
The guys has two songs about him, do you know many fighters who have fans serenading hiim when they're fighting.
