It's a weird one because the fight only makes sense if there's big money but there's only big money when both guys are at the top. So AJ wins and is worth big bucks, why risk it v Wilder when you could have three fights against lesser men for more money? Or AJ loses and no one wants to see the fight anymore.
Maybe. But it’s seems like we will be getting cards in February and March as well so it’s going to be good anyways.
I think this Wallin beating AJ narrative is coming from the Fury fans. If Wallin wins, then the Fury victory looks a lot better. I could be wrong.
I'm torn. My gut feeling is telling me AJ stops him but on the other hand they have fought twice before in the amateurs, sparred at least 150 rounds with each other, Wallin has never been dropped as a pro, people who've sparred him say he's tough and can take shots and he did take a few big wallops from Gassiev. That being said, that was a 217lb injury-ravaged inactive Gassiev who hadn't fought anyone with a pulse in 5 years and Wallin was hurt at least once and was clearly feeling the weight of them. Also, AJ has been acting weird doing his roadman routine trying to act all intimidating. Everyone at the first presser was calm and relaxed but AJ was the only one who wasn't. He was on edge throughout overcompensating trying to show everyone how big and tough he is. As for Mak vs Kabayal. I haven't seen the later fight in ages so I have no idea where he's at. At his best he's a good fighter with decent skills and power and if he's still the same version of old he's a live dog in this fight albeit it all hinges on whether he can take Mak's power or not or avoid getting hit much
AJ will win. Because Teddy picks Wallin to win in a decision. Which is insane. NO WAY Wallin can win a decision, too much money on AJ for him to lose a decision. This content is protected
The problem I see is that even if Wallin does better than we expect and arguably does enough to win on points will he actually get a fair decision in a competitive fight ? Most likely not. Wallin's only shot is winning by decision and I just don't see how the powers to be would let Wallin win a decision unless hes dominant.
Wallin will have to score a ko to win. No way he gets a decision vs a Brit. Odds are he gets ko'd anyhow.
Unless you are writing metaphorically, the "odds are" that Wallin doesn't get KO'd. Joshua points is the most likely outcome according to the bookies.
Who cares? Bodybuilder is done. Ruiz and Usyk crumbled his brain. It changes nothing. His career is at the end of the line like Fury by now. If it wont be Wallin, his executioner will be an old Wilder with a thunderous right hand.
Wallin is a good gatekeeper-level guy and a fringe contender - but that's still one step below AJ, even at his current state of decline. Only two ways for Wallin to win: a) AJ does something profoundly silly - like trying to force a KO and punching himself out. b) Somehow Hearn has already decided that AJ is at the end of the road, and his net present value for a future cash out isn't worth his high maintenance. Under such circumstances, Wallin might get the nod on a close card. But IMO "a" is not impossible, but not likely enough for me to pick Wallin. "b" seems very unlikely because I don't think Hearn is at the stage, nor do I think it's very likely that Wallin can outscore him over the course of 12 rounds. But AJ just scrapes by in this fight, I think Eddie's opinion of AJ will cross the rubicon and - aside from the prospect of a near-term low-risk cash grab involving Miller (and I think it's really unlikely Miller beats DuBois - his roadmap will be high-risk fights with Zhang/Wilder.
I would agree. I think AJ more or less needs to KO Wallin to reinvigorate his reputation, though, and if he's careless in pursuing that goal - there's always the chance that AJ could gas, punch himself out, or channel his inner Wilder and go off on a head-hunting expedition that lets his opponents win some rounds. Like yourself, I don't really see Wallin able to make this competitive over 12 rounds if AJ keeps his head, but that chip on his shoulder has grown mighty large.
Wallin's last stoppage was 3 years ago vs Travis Kauffman and that's the best opponent he's ever stopped, it would be very surprising if Wallin could get a stoppage over Joshua. Certainly nothing on his resume suggests he can stop any of the current top 10 Heavyweights, even with Fury's freak cut he still got the better of Wallin in 2nd half of the fight. The mostly likely bet is that it will go the scorecards and no way Wallin wins a decision whether he deserves it or not.
AJ looked heavy. Even when he's light, by his standards, he risks gassing out and usually takes rounds of. Wallin showed in the Gassiev that he can go 12 rounds with a pretty consistent tempo. Wallin doesn't have the hammer of Thor, but if he carries Joshua into the later half of the fight, anything can happen. And if AJ tries to be aggressive, he risks getting countered. And if you walk into a good counter left at heavyweight it cold be goodnight, or at least a 10-8 that even Hearn can't score even.
