Geez, this is happening way too much at the top level. What's up with these guys? Well, there goes a potential Walters/Loma fight for later this year.
I don't know if he has a history of this but if so it's time for him to consider moving up after the Loma fight.
Maybe after a while....but what would happen at first? A bunch of fight cancellations, right? Or a bunch of unsafe fights. For a fight like this probably a fair bit of money that went into putting it together -- not as much as a giant fight, but I bet it's no small sum. And if the fight gets called off does either guy get paid? Do the production companies get their site rental back? ticket holders get reimbursed? trainers, managers, agents, lawyers, sponsors and whoever else contributed to putting on this show? There's no easy solution. If you make it same day weigh in then more guys will miss weight, and if you fine them for missing weight but don't cancel the fight then a bunch of fighters will probably say "screw killing myself to boil down another two pounds, I'll just pay the fine" (if they're the a-side that is).
Walters 127lbs on the second weigh in - vacates the title - Marriaga can win it still as the fight goes ahead. Walters blamed it on an eight month lay off.
